Taking Care of A Used Treadmill

By | 1 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

A bad treadmill that frequently breaks down can quickly run up a huge repair bill. It is important to know what to look for and the signs of a used treadmill that is falling apart. There are also accessories that can maximize the life expectancy of your treadmill that won't cost too much.

The motor is the most important thing about the treadmill. It must be well maintained and kept up in good shape for the treadmill to be useful. During the shopping process, make sure you turn on the treadmill and be on the lookout for any signs of trouble. The motor should be running smoothly without irregular vibrations or noises.

Lubrication is important to any mechanical device with moving parts and a treadmill is no exception. Investing in a little lube kit and using it properly will pay for itself in the long run by extending the life of your treadmill. The motor requires lubrication to protect it and keep it running effectively. Burning the motor is a common problem that is a result of poor lubrication.

But all that lubrication does produce another potential problem for some people. The heat generated by the friction changes the lubricant into a thick sludge. This ugly junk will eventually escape from the machine and end up as stains in your carpet or floorboards. The best way to deal with this is by purchasing a treadmill mat to go under the treadmill.

Not only does the treadmill mat catch the sludge that may drip from your treadmill but also keeps carpet fibers, dust, and debris on the ground from getting kicked up into the air and stuck to the insides of your machine.

The treadmill mat is truly a wise investment for any treadmill owner since it also serves as a shock absorbing agent during your workout. The vibrations from being in use can generate a lot of noise which is reduced when absorbed by a floor mat. Also, the mat absorbs the shock so your floors aren't damaged by the treadmill and the treadmill is protected against its own vibration reverberating back from the floor.

It can be hard for a first time buyer looking to buy used treadmills. In any case, it is always a good idea to invest some money in a treadmill warranty to cover the cost of parts and even labor. The standard recommendation is at least half a year of coverage. Avoid used gym treadmills since they tend to have been heavily used and are usually on their last leg.
