Taking Care of your Wedding Day Checklist to Take the Stress Off of You
You've been planning for months--perhaps for a year or more---and you have your wedding day checklist in hand. However, there is still so much to do before you can make your walk down the aisle to your new life. Perhaps when you picture your big day it is of you gently gliding down the aisle to gorgeous, symphonic tones with your father by your side and everyone looking adoringly on you. The reality is that to get to that moment, you have a lot more things to do.
The good news is that most of your wedding day checklist tasks can be delegated to other people who are more than happy to help you, or who are getting paid to help you. By delegating these tasks, you can achieve a stress-free wedding day and your vision can be realized. Here is how you can delegate your tasks:
- Maid of Honor: She can give directions from place to place to a hired driver, ensure ushers know who to escort to their seats and where to seat them, drive the bride around for any last minute details (like to the hairdresser), and generally coordinate between the bride and everyone else.
- Florist: Your florist can deliver and place the flowers. Also, check with him or her and see if they have experience with organizing the walk down the aisle. Perhaps your florist can take charge of pairing the groomsmen with the bridesmaids, listen to the music and give cues for when each bridesmaid as well as flower girl start the walk down the aisle, and give your train a lift to flatten it out before you walk down the aisle. If they are unwilling to do so, check with the host at your venue.
- Ushers and Groomsmen: They can seat guests, take gifts to a designated location, offer to hang up coats and jackets, set up the centerpieces at the reception location, pick up the cake and/or flowers, place wedding favors in designated spot (either by each plate, or on a separate table) at the reception venue, and pass out any programs.
- Groom: Supervise and help the ushers and groomsmen while they complete their tasks, double check and call each of your reservations for the honeymoon (if taking one right away) to ensure that everything is booked and flights are leaving on time, make sure the two of you have transportation after the reception to a hotel, airport, etc., and arrange for two meals to go for the two of you to take at the end of the reception (you will most likely not eat an entire meal, and if you do, then this will be a great midnight snack!).
- Photographer: Your photographer can take charge before the ceremony by photographing the groomsmen and bridesmaids getting ready, as well as be the person who organizes the photos afterwards. Most of your guests will get up and go over to cocktail hour directly after the wedding, or they might be confused where and when to go. Your photographer can start organizing your guests into the photo sequences you are looking for, such as the mother and father of the bride, the mother and father of the groom, and other family portraits.
Nowadays, most of us are planning a wedding on a budget, and so we do not have wedding planners to take care of all of these details for us. However, budget weddings do not have to be extra stressful for you. Good luck, and congratulations!
