Whenever we want to find out about something, we usually talk to someone who is knowledgeable on the subject. We reckoned they would be able to tell us if purchasing these blinds is a good idea and if they have any tips for us. Some of the answers and tips that they gave us were very useful.

Firstly they told us that Venetian blinds are back in fashion having gone through a period whereby homeowners were actually removing these blinds form their homes. Venetian blinds peaked in popularity in the 1960's when they were everywhere from homes top offices to factories. In reality they were the only mass-produced blind on the market, so people had little choice. When other blind styles, such as Roman and Roller blinds began to be produced in vibrant colours, homeowners flocked to them and away from the Venetian blind. However, in recent years, the Venetian blind has made a comeback and is now available in different colours and sizes.

One way that you can purchase Venetian blinds for you home is as ready made blinds. 'You do need to be very careful when purchasing any ready made blind', one expert pointed out to us. 'If the blinds are too small for the window, then you will not be able to block the light effectively, and if the blinds are too big, you will have the problem of the blind looking sloppy and badly –hung'. I have seen homeowners hanging the blinds up over the framed window area and with a blind that is bigger than the window this can give the effect that the window opening is bigger than it actually is, but it does not work in all cases.

One point that should be kept in mind is that ready made blinds are produced for a reason and that is to save the purchaser money. Not only is the blind therefore ready made, but all of the materials that have gone into the blind, such as materials, metal slats, etc, have all been sourced because of their value. This could also suggest that they will not be of the same quality as a similar made to measure blind. If you are purchasing blinds for a conservatory, where protection from the sun is important, you perhaps need to consider blinds with specific heat and sun ray reflective properties.

The interior designers told us that many property owners purchase ready made Venetian blinds and by ensuring that they are the correct size and also by adding individual pieces of design to the blinds are able to ensure that their blinds are attractive and functioning properly at only a small portion of the cost of regular blinds.
