Healthy Drink Recipes

The typical summertime drink is soda pop and we all know that it is not healthy in any form.  Diet soda has no nutritional value at all and is just as unhealthy as the sugar filled variety.   The healthiest drink, of course, is water but it gets a little boring and sometimes we just want something tasty and healthy at the same time.  Fruit juices are also filled with sugar so what do we do?  We can create our own healthy drinks and minimize the sugar.  I have three healthy and tasty drink recipes that are guilt free refreshments for a summer time thirst.  Let’s take a look.

 Fizzy Citrus Wow

 This drink is “wow” because it is the nutritional equivalent of one serving of fruit.  Great stuff!

 You will need:

2 cups of unsweetened pineapple juice

2 cups of orange juice

1 teaspoon of lemon juice

3/4 teaspoon of coconut extract

3/4 teaspoon of vanilla

2 cups of chilled sparkling water

 Now do this:

Put all of your ingredients, except for the water, in a large drink pitcher and chill in the refrigerator.  Now, when you have your guests over, just add the sparkling water and you have instant fizz, wow!  It’s very refreshing.

 Strawberry Cream

One great flavour partnership is strawberries and cream.  So let's make a drink of it!

 You will need:

 2 cups of frozen yogurt (low-fat strawberry)

1 cup of fresh strawberries, sliced and hulled

2/3 cup of chilled skim milk

1/4 cup of chilled orange juice

1/8 teaspoon of ground cinnamon

 Now do this:

Blend together the yogurt, strawberries, skim milk and orange juice with the cinnamon in a food processor or a blender.  Mix it until smooth. Hey, you are done.  How easy is that? You should get two to four glasses out of it depending on how large your glasses are of course. 

Iced Coffee Special

How about some summer coffee?  Try this low calorie cold drink version, yum!

You need this:

 2 teaspoons of Instant coffee (any kind decaf included!)

1 cup of skimmed milk

low calorie sweetener such as Splenda or Stevia (to taste)

1/4 cup of fat free vanilla yogurt

4 cubes of ice

 Now do this:

Crush your ice preferably in a blender.  (If you can’t crush them just put the ice cubes in the blended coffee to chill it after preparation)  Now add the coffee, milk, sweetener and yogurt and blend away.  You now have a very special cool and creamy coffee. Delicious.


Healthy and tasty drinks like these are especially refreshing in the summer but hey you can certainly enjoy them all year long.  Water will always be your best hydrator and thirst quencher but try these recipes when you are entertaining or just want something cool and yummy for yourself or your family.  Enjoy!
