Teeth Whitening Safety - Keep This In Mind!

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

Many people have heard of teeth whitening treatment today. The method of bleaching teeth by laser and gel has been gaining a lot of momentum as of late. For years now, the treatment has been available commercially to the public. Having your teeth bleached is relatively quick and easy. A lot more easy than most other cosmetic enhancement procedures. But what about the safety of the procedure? You hear a lot of success stories on the television, the radio and in magazines. But what about the horror stories? What about the cases where it all went horribly wrong?

Teeth Whitening Safety Issues

Let's cut to the chase. The list of teeth whitening problems is a large one. It sounds like bad news. But the situation is actually not so bad as you would expect. Of all the side effects you may suffer from after having your teeth whitened, there is only one that is actually very dangerous and that you must be very careful with. The rest of the side effects are temporary annoyances that won't last longer than a day. In most cases, if you're careful with teeth whitening, you won't suffer any long term damage.

The one thing that can damage your teeth permanently, is when you are using a gel that is based on hydrogen peroxide to bleach your teeth. Hydrogen peroxide is used to whiten teeth quickly and effectively, but it is a very aggressive chemical that you need to be very careful with. If you are using too much of it for too long in concentrations that are too high, you are running the risk of damaging your teeth permanently. You see, the hydrogen peroxide is going to penetrate your tooth enamel to break down the stains. But the enamel itself also gets damaged. Damage it beyond a certain point and it won't be able to recover! Your teeth will then remain more sensitive and more painful pretty much forever.

So that's the one thing you should be most careful with. The other side effects that might affect you are usually the direct result of accidentally swallowing some of the hydrogen peroxide that you apply to your teeth. If you swallow some of it, you might get irritation of the soft tissues in the mouth, headaches and nausea. But as mentioned before, these things are all temporary and will fade away after a few hours or so. If your complaints are not gone after more than one day, please consult a physician.
