Textbooks Online: How to Find the Best Deals

By Edited Sep 16, 2016 0 0

If you are a college student, you know that textbooks are extremely expensive. Textbooks generally get updated every few years, and professors always want the newest textbook, which increases the cost of the textbook for you, the consumer. However, if you shop around, you can usually find a pretty good deal on a textbook. Barnes & Noble and AbeBooks are great stores to shop at when looking for the best deals on textbooks. To save even more money on textbooks, be sure to use a coupon code when you can.

Finding Sites

Never go to just one website when you are trying to find the best deals on textbooks. One merchant may have one textbook for a good price, but they may be more expensive than others on another textbook that you want. Barnes & Noble and AbeBooks are great starting points when it comes to shopping for textbooks. You can save up to 50% off of the list price on textbooks by shopping at AbeBooks. If you get a membership with Barnes & Noble, you will get member pricing that is much lower than their pricing to all other customers.

Finding Deals

When you visit a website that sells textbooks, the first thing that you should do is look for banners that mention any sales. For example, when you visit the AbeBooks website, you will see a banner in the top right corner of the website that says Save Money. If you prefer to shop at Barnes & Noble, they typically have banners in the middle of their website that mention their current deals, and they have a Bargain Books link at the top of their site.

Buying Used

You will always pay more for a brand new textbook than you will for a used textbook. In many cases, you can get a textbook in very good or like new condition for a fraction of the cost of a new textbook. Both Barnes & Noble and AbeBooks sell used textbooks. When you type in the ISBN or a title of a book into their website, both websites will display prices for a new textbook and for used textbooks. If you are looking to save money on your textbook purchase, the only time you should buy a textbook new is when the textbook comes with other materials, such as CDs and study guides.

Coupon Codes

Coupon codes are a fantastic resource when you are trying to find the best deals on textbooks. Just because you are buying a used textbook does not mean that you can't use a coupon code. Retailers such as Barnes & Noble and AbeBooks often release coupon codes for 10% off of your order, or for free shipping. 10% may not seem like much, but any additional savings that you can get means more money in your pocket. If you can find a coupon code for the retailer that you are shopping at, simply enter the code when prompted during the checkout process to experience instant savings on your order.
