Texting While Driving - Against The Law Almost Everywhere

Stupidity However, Is Still Perfectly Legal

Few things irritate me more on the road than seeing people texting while driving. I'm not a hardcore advocate for a blanket cell phone ban while driving, but do understand that it has it's risks. In my area, the authorities have chosen to keep talking on a phone while driving legal as long as you're on a hands free device. Texting, tweeting, or anything else that requires the use of your hands however is illegal. In my opinion this approach is fairly ineffective as your brain is still occupied with your conversation and not the road, it does stop people from texting which is a good thing.

Studies have proven that you are 3x more likely to be involved in an accident on the road if you are texting. 3x more likely, that is crazy! Is driving not dangerous enough as it is? I think we have all been behind somebody at an intersection who sits there texting oblivious to the fact that the light has turned green. Or maybe you've seen somebody veer off the highway and swerve back into the lane, only to look over and see that they're either texting, or have a center console that is far more interesting than mine.

Laws should be stricter on texting and driving. We need to lose this over-inflated sense of self-importance that makes us feel like we have to respond to a text or an email the very second it comes in. When you are texting, your eyes are not on the road. When your eyes are not on the road, people die. If you are not able to control yourself while you drive, I recommend turning your phone off and putting in in your trunk before you drive anywhere.

Would it really be worth ending somebody's life so you can send one last lol? No, it's not, and  can happen to you. Give it some thought, stop driving and texting.

So I am pretty sure in Virginia texting while driving is illegal. On the other hand, I am not sure how they are going to really say you are texting and driving until you die from being hit by another car because you weren't looking. Nice article!

In Canada where I live, they catch people all the time. The police say that if you're starting at your center console or knees that you can be fined for texting because nobody's center console is that interesting! Thanks for reading.
