The Advantages Of Using A Memory Foam Mattress Topper

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

There is a ton of rage in the bedding industry these days about memory foam. From the Temper-Pedic Mattresses that we hear so much about to those bowling ball commercials that we've now seen about a million times, memory foam is everywhere. Before we get into what exactly a memory foam mattress topper is and why you should consider buying one, let's get into exactly what this material is.

Memory foam is basically a type of foam that "remembers" it's shape. Unlike normal foams that bounce back into their original shape once the pressure leaves, memory foam actually molds into the shape that's putting stress on it. How it does this is kind of a mystery to me. From what I've read, it relies on heat to keep it's shape. As a source of heat touches the foam, it relaxes allowing the foam to re-shape itself. The material will keep this shape until the heat source becomes cool again. At this point, the foam will return to it's original state slowly but surely.

So why should a mattress topper be made from memory foam? Well, it's really quite simple if you think about it. Typical mattresses are flat. Our body's contours while lying down, though, are not! Unless you have a figure like Sponge-Bob Square Pants, your bed probably isn't properly fitted for your body. A memory foam mattress topper will adapt to your body's unique shape, allowing you to sleep easier at night.

"Well if memory foam is so great, why shouldn't I buy a proper memory foam mattress instead of just a topper?"

This is an excellent question! If you can afford a full on mattress made from this material, by all means, go for it! They offer fantastic support and last for many years. The only reason why you should buy a topper instead of a mattress is because of cost. Amemory foam mattress topper is much cheaper than a full on mattress made from this material.

Be careful though if you're going to go the budget route. Most products are alright but there are a few things to consider. The most important factor is the thickness. A 3" memory foam mattress topper will suffice for most people. If you can afford it, though, I recommend going with something that is 4 inches. The best way to figure what's right for you is to get out there and touch a bunch of different products. Once you've made a decision, consider buying the item online. There are always deals to be had on the internet. Just be sure to check out a few different site before pulling out your wallet.
