There is an art to collecting items that will sell. If you aren't on top of this, you will be stuck with so many items that you won't know what to do with them. The more time you have for this, the better it will be. It takes research and careful planning. Sure you may hit a good item that sells for a pretty penny but the idea if you want to make some money is to find a niche and run it until it dries up in selling collectibles.

You should find something that you like and can have a passion for. If you don't like baseball cards too much what will be the incentive to sell them? The thing is, if you find something you can be excited about to sell, your niche, it will drive you to be successful, if it is the right niche. You may like many things, but they may not be a good item when selling collectibles.

Selling collectibles

This is where your research comes in handy. You need to know what is selling and you can easily find these things out. First if you are already on E-bay, you can actually see what is selling and for how much. By using the advanced search and completed listings option, you will see what has sold and what does not sell well.

Run a few ideas through this lookup and see what you come up with. E-bay also publishes a Hot List every month that you can read and it may give you some ideas as well.

Although, E-bay is not the only place you can do business, it is the biggest place to sell most anything. You can open up a store on E-bay and by doing this your store will not be in the bidding zone. For the E-bay stores, each item will have a price that is not negotiable in selling collectibles.

The hardest part of all of this, is finding a continual amount of collectibles to keep your income moving forward. This may be a good reason to choose several avenues of collectibles so that you have a better chance at continual income.

One thing to remember with selling collectibles online is that good niches may not last forever. There are items that may sell for months, and then they die out and nobody wants them. If you can find a niche that you can make a profit on that will always be a good niche that is worth gold. The competition on e-bay may be the problem. You may not be able to make a profit with the competitors. Common items are already thought of and being sold. The only alternative is to find some items that are not common and try them out on E-bay. This is where it becomes a strategic type of business. There is no hit or miss, it must be planned by trial and error, so to say.
