The Attractions and History of Squire Boone Caverns
A Brief History of Squire Boone Caverns
In 1790 while hiding from some Indians, Daniel Boone and his brother Squire stumbled upon what is now known today as Squire Boone Caverns. Squire later purchased the land and built a farm and mill upon it, he loved the caverns so much that he is buried within them.
The Squire Boone Caverns Today
Today, the Squire Boone Caverns are open year round, and adventurous travelers can tour them. Within them you'll find magnificent stalagmites and stalactites, strange albino cave creatures. and the grave of Squire Boone. In addition to the caverns, you'll be able to tour the Squire Boone Village and Mill. Here you can witness old-fashioned candle dipping, taste fresh baked goods, and savor sweet homemade candies from the Squire Boone Welcome Center and Candy Factory. And that mill I mentioned earlier? It still is running (during the summer months that is) and you can even purchase corn meal from it!Location and Dates of Operation
The Squire Boone Caverns are located near Corydon, Indiana and are in close proximity to other Indiana caves. The natural beauty of these caverns and their rich history (Daniel Boone hid here!!) make them one of the top Indiana tourist attractions in my book. Anyways, here's the address:100 Squire Boone Rd. S.W.
Mauckport, IN 47142
(812) 732-4381
Cave tours are held year round, but the village and mill are only open during the summer months (Memorial Day through Labor Day).
