One of the things that the Bible teaches is the attributes of the God, this is so that you can know the God you are expected to serve. God's characteristics are the characteristics that humans should strive to possess. One thing you will hear as you study about God is that above all is the Grace of God, his love and the fact that he is all things and he is a part of all things as the creator of all things.

Acts 20:32 “Now I commit you to God and to the word of his grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified. (NIV)

The most important of all the attribute is that God can do all things, everything is within the power of God and it can be done without effort, it is a part of his being. He can create something new in the speaking of the word, nothing at all is impossible for the God of Christians to do.

Matthew 19:26 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (NIV)

While there is nothing that God can't do, doesn't mean there are not things he won't ever do. This means that somethings are against the very nature of God. He cannot sin, this would be completely against who he is completely. He will not lie, cheat, play games, steal, over-drink or commit infidelities. Just because God has the ability to do anything, he would not contradict his personality to show you that he can.

Hebrews 6:18 God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. (NIV)

Another attribute of the Christian God is that He is all knowing, he knows every bit of information that can be known, he has information on the past, the present and the future. He knows who will sin and he knows who will be faithful. This has nothing to do with him allowing these things to happen, the things that happen are man made, while he knows what you will do, he wants it to be completely your choice to do it. If you choose not to do something, he knew you would not do it but he is so happy you made the right choice.

1 Samuel 2:3 “Do not keep talking so proudly or let your mouth speak such arrogance, for the LORD is a God who knows, and by him deeds are weighed.”(NIV)

A wonderful attribute of God is that he is all good, everything about him points to his goodness, he is the opposite of evil and cannot be such. He is good to you and he will always be. His goodness is seen in everything he does including the giving of his only son to die for the sin of the people he loves.

2 Chronicles 6:41 “Now arise, LORD God, and come to your resting place, you and the ark of your might. May your priests, LORD God, be clothed with salvation, may your faithful people rejoice in your goodness.” (NIV)

God is also all loving, he loves you, and he loves your neighbor, he loves the sinner (but he is not to fond of the sin), he loves children and he loves the peoples of the Earth. He loved humanity so much that he sent his son to die to take away the sin that came into the world through human disobedience and he made it possible for the Christian to regain their place in everlasting life. His love is very much like a loving parent, he loves you and is not happy about the punishments that he must give you to keep you from going astray or acting up, but he does so because he love you and wants the best for you.

Exodus 34:6 And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness (NIV)

Another attribute is that God is immutable, he is unchanging. He will always be the same, today, yesterday and forever he will always be exactly the same God. The Christian God has many different attributes that make up his personality and the way he is with his children, but one of the best things about his personality is that this will never change. He will always be the God he always was. All the other attributes will never change and his Word will not change, so he will always be the God he is.

Psalm 55:19 God, who is enthroned from of old, who does not change— he will hear them and humble them, because they have no fear of God. (NIV)
