The Benefits Of A Tankless Water Heater
There is a significant benefit to having a tankless water heater system installed in your home. These systems are sometimes called demand water heaters or instantaneous water heaters. The system works without storing the heated water in a tank. It is a system that has been around for many years in European homes where space is at a premium, but they have only recently gained popularity in the United States in the past several years.
The space savings is the first benefit of a tankless water heater. You will no longer be required to have a large water heater tank in your basement. The system mounts efficiently near the place where the hot water is needed. This may not seem very practical if you have several places in your home that require hot water, such as more than one shower, washing machine and dishwasher. There are systems that can resolve this problem with more than one system placed at the various locations in your home or a larger system that will heat the water in all locations.
When you use a system that uses a hot water tank, you will have to heat the water that is stored in the tank whether you are using it or not. This means that if you leave your home on a vacation, your hot water tank will be continuously heating the water that is not being used. With a tankless water heater, the water will only be heated when it is required. This can save a substantial amount if the hot water usage is moderate.
The benefit of energy savings will be apparent with your first month's energy bill after installing a tankless water heater. Even for a family that uses a significant amount of hot water daily, there is still a savings. It will not be as great for a larger amount as a moderate amount of hot water, but there will still be a savings.
There is also a benefit of on demand hot water. The delivery of hot water is also much quicker with a tankless system. This will save you on water costs. You will not have to run the water for a long period of time waiting for the hot water to reach you from the tank. The water delivery is almost instantaneous.
The type of tankless water heater that you choose will depend on the energy that you use to heat your hot water. It is possible to get a tankless water heater that uses gas or electricity to heat the water.

Very nice article.
The only real drawback is that many tankless heaters can only heat enough water for one major appliance to used at a time. (or at least that's how they were a few years ago)
They are much more economical and pay for themselves.
