The Benefits Of Pine Or Oak Unfinished Furniture

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

Some years ago I heard a friend talking about buying unfinished furniture. At that time I didn't know much about it, but that was soon to change. I was curious about the whole concept so I started asking questions. The first being something like why would people buy unfinished if they aren't into do it yourself projects?

Why Buy Ready To Finish Furniture

I soon learned about the many good reasons why people buy unfinished furniture, which is sometimes called unpainted or ready to finish furniture. One of the big reasons is because of the versatility it provides. It allows you to choose the style of furniture you want in the type of wood you prefer, then you are able to choose the finish you want. It's not quite like custom-made but it is as close as you may get at an affordable price.

I remembered looking at bedroom furniture. We looked at a wide variety of finished sets but ended up not buying because we couldn't find the right thing. We'd find a style we liked, but we wouldn't like the color; or we would find a finish we liked but we didn't like the style. A couple of times we came close but some of the pieces were too big or too small to fit in the room properly. With unfinished furniture it is so much easier to find exactly what you want.

Besides finding what you want you are also able to get solid wood furniture at a good price. Solid wood furniture is much more durable than many lower cost finished pieces, so you know it will last for a long time. It may be the last pieces you buy. But don't worry, if you get tired of the finish you can sand and re-finish it in a new color.

Unfinished Pine Furniture

If you are looking for something economical you may want to look at unfinished pine furniture. It is cheaper for a couple of reasons, it is an abundant lumber and because it is a soft wood it is easier to work with, making it easier to produce. This helps keep the price down. Because it is a soft wood it will get scratches easier than some other types of wood, but it will still be a solid piece of furniture that should last a long time.

Unfinished Oak Furniture

If you want durable furniture that will stand up well in high traffic areas you may want to look at unfinished oak furniture. Oak is a hard wood that is well known for it's strength and durability. It will cost more than pine, but it will hold up well over time. Solid oak furniture will last so long, you may even want to pass it on to the next generation.
