Make the Most of Your Vacation in Maui with These Can't Miss Activities

A couple years ago I had the privilege of being able to visit Maui with my family. Even though it is not the main island it is still beautiful and peaceful as anything you can imagine. The ocean is as blue as you see in postcards, the sand is white, and the sun is out all day every day. Most people who live there are very laid back, and you can have fun just lying on a beach. I have never been to a more beautiful place in my life.  There is always something going on for tourists to enjoy and get a taste of their culture. Another thing I loved was the way everyone would welcome you by saying “Aloha”. There is never a boring moment in a day when your visit Maui. These are the top nine activities, and places to eat that I would suggest to anyone wanting to go visit there.

#1 Take a Catamaran Snorking Cruise

The first one I say is a must is go snorkeling off a catamaran. When I visited my family and I took a large boat, with many other families, way out into the ocean to a great snorkeling spot the locals know about. We had the best time, the crew is very nice and social. They only want everyone to have the best time, and that is exactly what we did. Once we got to the place the things I saw were incredible. Since the water is so clear you can see the most beautiful fish and coral. That is not something you see every day. We stayed at the snorkeling spot for a little over an hour. The crew even served us burgers made fresh right there on the boat. It was a wonderful experience and a great way to see ocean life.

#2 Lahaina Shopping

Everyone loves to shop on vacation. At least I know I do. Lahina has the best shopping, while a lot of it is very high end it is always fun to look, and who knows you might see a celebrity. That is where they all hang out. There are a great variety of stores to get souvenir shirts, or even a new swimsuit.

#3 Eat at Bubba Gumps

The third thing I suggest is if you are looking for a fun place to take the family out to dinner, I highly recommend Bubba Gump’s. This place is based off the movie Forest Gump. Right there you know it’s going to be a fun time. They are extremely family friendly and the food is amazing. They atmosphere is energetic, and it is very unique.

#4 Eat at The Hard Rock Cafe

Another great restaurant I highly recommend is the Hard Rock Café. We don’t have one of those here in Oregon, so anytime you get the chance to go to one take it. it is a fun place with each wall filled with items from all different type of singers. You would recognize most of them. Since it is so warm in Maui, every single restaurant keeps the windows open so you will never miss a sunset, and you will always have the scent of the ocean.

#5 Take Surf Lessons

Number five would have to be surf lessons. Even though I never had the chance to take them, I have heard they are amazing. Who wouldn’t want to learn how to surf in the most beautiful ocean? Oregon is not the best place to surf, so take advantage of it while you can. Surf lessons are offered almost everywhere, so you will never be in doubt about where to go. And since almost all of the locals surf as a main hobby most places are very reliable.

#6 Visit the Beaches

Since the beaches are so beautiful, take your family to a different beach every day. It is fun to see the different atmospheres of all the different beaches. There is even a nude beach which first of all I never went to, and second of all I do not recommend going to one. Each beach is different, for example there are a few beaches that provide you with lawn chairs to lie out on the beach. Be careful the sand is extremely hot, but once you put your feet in the amazing water your good to go. This leads me to my next suggestion.

#7 Swim in the Ocean

Number seven would have to be swimming in the ocean. I have never been able to just jump into an ocean without being freezing cold. I could have spent hours just swimming around. Another great thing about Hawaii’s oceans is they are so calm during the later morning to late afternoon.  Even though you should always be cautious whenever you are near, or in an ocean, there is something so calming about floating in an ocean that is not freezing, and has little to no waves during the day.

#8 Visit Local Markets

Next I would say to visit the local markets. The locals love to sell the most random things, but they are all for great prices. Sometimes the items are homemade, but then again a lot of them you could find at a store. I love looking at all of the homemade bracelets a lot them sell. That is always a fun afternoon activity when it gets too hot to lay out any more. Everyone also says to try the shaved ice. It is just a snow cone, but for some reason they taste amazing.

#9 Go to a Luau

Last I would say to go to a luau. They are so entertaining, and it gives you a sense of the Hawaiian culture. The food at the luau’s is authentic Hawaiian food. While you mot love everything, it is defiantly worth trying it. Going to a luau is not something you can do just anywhere, so that would be the most important, and most fun thing on my list. I really enjoyed it, and the entertainers can do the most amazing things.

I would recommend visiting Maui to anyone. I had the best time of my life, and it is so beautiful you will not regret it. I know I am sick of the rain so writing this paper let me reminisce about the most amazing place I have been. These top nine things are only a few suggestions of fun activities to do here, but the options are endless. You will not be bored for a second.
