A high end fridge is a hefty investment, and a purchase that needs to be considered carefully. However, it can also be a good purchase, meaning that you'll have an appliance that will serve you for years to come, and will also have low running costs. If you're building a new kitchen, or remodelling an existing room, then a fridge is probably pretty high on your list of priorities. But there are so many models on the market that choosing between them can be tough. Two of the best-selling models currently are the Samsung RSG309 and the Kenmore Elite 4100. Both of these are great appliances, but which one is best? We put them to the test to find out which of these is the better buy. If you're thinking about purchasing a new fridge, then you're going to want to read on to find out how these two stack up...

Size...

Both of these are big models, as high end fridges should be. They come in at around the same physical size, though the Samsung is slightly heavier. But when it comes to capacity, there's a pretty significant difference. The Samsung has a fridge capacity of around eighteen cubic feet, the Kenmore has twenty four. And it's the opposite story with the freezer, the Samsung getting eleven and half cubic feet, the Kenmore only nine. Considering their dimensions are pretty even, that's a lot more storage space in the Samsung model.

Features...

Obviously, being high end fridges means that both these models are pretty feature heavy. They both come with ice dispensers, both crushed and cubed, with water filters, and with a child lock, which is convenient. They also both have door alarms, alerting you when the doors are not properly closed, which can mean a substantial saving on electric bills if you're slightly absent minded. But storage features are where they really differ. The Samsung has five shelves in both the fridge and the freezer, as well as five door bins. The Kenmore manages only three shelves in both the fridge and freezer with four door bins. The Samsung also has spill proof shelves, to make storage easier and cleaner, the Kenmore doesn't.

Energy...

When it comes to cost, you don't only need to consider the initial investment of an appliance, but also its running costs. The more energy efficient a fridge is the lower your electricity bills are going to be. The Samsung does have a slightly lower energy rating, using around 620 Kwh per year, whilst the Kenmore uses about 560 Kwh annually. So the Kenmore is more efficient and should result in lower bills...

Which is a Better Buy?

The Samsung comes in slightly more expensive to purchase as well as having higher running costs. But it does have a lot more storage. As an investment, the Kenmore is a better buy simply because it costs less to run over time, but that's only if you can settle for less space in your appliance.
