With the growing popularity of travel themed weddings, brides and grooms are searching high and low for original ideas for their guest's favors. Unfortunately, many of the best ideas require a budget more in line for William & Kate than you or I. With that said, what are some of the top ideas for travel themed wedding favors, and where can you get them cheap and easy? Here are some of your best options:
One great option for a favor is a travel themed keychain. These will generally be inexpensive, small (easier to transport), and could be something that your wedding guests actually use outside the wedding. There are plenty of options to choose from as well as keychains come in just about any shape, size or color. Some of the best options include an airplane, compass, luggage tag (yes a luggage tag keychain), or even the Eiffel Tower. Here is one of our favorites!
You can never go wrong with using airplanes for a travel themed wedding! They are so versatile and can be used as a favor, centerpiece item, on the head table, or just for general decoration!
Perhaps the most cliche item on this list, luggage tags are the quintessential travel themed wedding favor as they are one of the most recognizable items associated with flying. Some of the cheaper luggage tags can be purchased in bulk throughout the web from $1-2.
However, if you're looking for something a little nicer, we'd suggest tags such as these that are under $3 each and are really cute!
A less expensive and more gender neutral item could be something like this - keep in mind that you're certainly allowed to mix and match types of luggage tag depending on if the person is a man or woman! You may also go for the less expensive item based on your budget - if it took an extra $100 to get the perfect wedding favor, though, you may have to do it :)

Wine Bottle Stopper or Bottle Opener
The classic gift, a wine bottle stopper is something that can be very useful for your guests years after your wedding. This item is one of the few that you won't want to skimp too much on price. The reason for this is that there are a lot of cheap-o bottle stoppers out there that don't keep the air out, which is about as useful as a plastic bag with a huge hole in the bottom. Like some of the options mentioned above, these could come in a variety of shapes and sizes, although we're particularly inclined to suggest the Eiffel Tower bottle stopper found here!
Another great idea could be an actual bottle opener! This could be particularly useful if you don't have a lot of friends and family members that enjoy wine, but instead kick back with some cold Sam Adams instead. The options for these are a little more limited, but the Eiffel Tower opener is a great option to have (notice a trend here?!?) Make sure you're getting a sturdy bottle opener here that isn't going to break in half after its first use!
There are SO many Eiffel Tower wedding favor ideas - It's like you're getting married in Paris!
These are more of a Do It Yourself (DIY) item, but if you create a travel box, you can put just about anything inside for a favor. One idea if your going to have a photobooth is to create the travel box and buy plastic picture frames for the photos to put inside. The boxes will generally be brown kraft jewelry boxes, while the stamps, twine, etc... that you use on the outside can be from almost anywhere!
To the right you'll see what a completed box may look like. There are many different-sized Kraft boxes, and you should pick one based on what you're going to want to put inside. You're best bet is going to be to coupon
for the best deals on the boxes, twine and stamps as the box is really for show and will most likely be discarded by 3/4 of your guests!
Additional ideas could include travel pins, postcards, framed maps, chocolate airplanes, airplane or Eiffel Tower paperweights, small candles with airplane stamps on the side - and the list goes on and on!
Keep in mind that the ideas don't need to stop here. Depending on your budget, you can purchase just about any travel themed item for your favor (airplane cufflinks anyone?). Also, if your wedding already has enough travel items, you may not even have to focus on a 'Travel Themed Favor' (although that is quite the opposite point of this article). For example, the plastic picture frame that we mentioned to go along with your photobooth can be combined with a travel stamp or mini paper airplane for a simple, elegant gift.
Travel themed weddings
are some of the most fun to plan, and that is the mindset you should use going into your favor selection. At the end of the day, you want to give your guests something that will remind them of your special day, and better yet if they're able to use it in their own lives.
We hope this article gave you some insight into the options available - let me know if there are some great travel themed favors that I may not have thought of in the comments below!
