By Edited Jun 4, 2016 0 0

In the market for a new mobile phone? Mobiles are a pretty big investment for most people, and are going to set you back a couple of hundred pounds. That means that you're going to want to make sure that you're making a good decision when you make your purchase. But there are so many mobile phones on the market today that choosing the best one isn't always easy. Today we're talking about which are the best mobile phones to buy in lots of different categories, from top end to second hand. So, if you're looking for a great new phone, then read on to find out our recommendations...

Best Top End: The Samsung Galaxy S 4...

Top end mobiles go for way over five hundred pounds these days, but they are heavily feature laden. Samsung's new offering, the Galaxy S 4, is really a top of the line device. You get huge octo-core processing power, a big Super AMOLED screen, and all kinds of fancy features. You even get a smart screen that can track your eye movement and scroll your web pages up and down for you. Out of all the new top end releases, the Samsung Galaxy S 4 is probably the best, and it's also a tad cheaper than the competition. If you're looking for a great new, top end phone, then you need to take a close look at the Galaxy S 4.

Best Budget: The Huawei Ascend W1...

The problem with budget smart phones is that you often end up sacrificing so many features to get a low price that the phone ends up not working as well as you'd like. Screen size is a particular problem, with budget models tending towards much smaller touch screens than are really practical. But the Huawei Ascend W1 has the largest screen of any budget model on the market. It's also got some fair processing power, so you're not going to get too much frustrating lag. The Huawei doesn't have a whole lot of internal memory, and the battery life could be a little better, but for around a hundred pounds this model is an absolute steal.

Best iPhone: The iPhone 4S...

The iPhone 5 is pretty nice, and it does have a bigger screen than the older models, but when it comes to the best phone to buy for the best price, it's got to be the iPhone 4S. You get a phone that's practically identical to the iPhone 5 (other than the screen size), with the same operating system and even the same camera. iPhones are pretty pricey at the best of times, and if you're looking at top end models then you're going to be paying a bundle. But the iPhone 4S is a great compromise between good functionality and price. There's really little to choose from between the iPhone 5 and the 4S, and we think that the 4S is quite simply much better value for money.

Best Second Hand: The HTC Desire HD...

Buying second hand can save you tons of cash, but it's also a bit of a risk, since you won't know exactly what you're getting. The HTC Desire HD makes a great second hand phone for a number of reasons. Firstly, it's got great build quality and is robust, meaning it's less likely to be damaged than more fragile models. It's also a popular model, meaning that you'll get lots of second hand options to choose from. Finally, the HTC Desire HD is a great phone. It's two years old, but it's still a good model, with enough processing power, internal memory and RAM to satisfy the average phone user. Buying a second hand mobile isn't for everyone, but if you're going to do it then this HTC model is a good option.

Best Basic: The Nokia 100...

Not everyone needs a smart phone. There are two main groups that can benefit from owning a basic phone rather than a smart phone. The first is older customers, who are rarely looking for a phone that does anything other than text and make calls and don't want the overwhelming set of functions that comes on a smart phone. The second is kids. Buying your child a mobile is a big decision, and most parents don't want their kids to have internet access and the ability to access inappropriate material. They also don't want to spend a bundle on a fragile smart phone that can be easily lost, broken or stolen. The best basic deal on the market is going to be the Nokia 100. You get the awesome robust build quality that you'd expect from Nokia. The buttons are big and easy to use, and even the screen is big enough to easily read. There's no real internet service, so you won't need to worry about your kids being online, and it's a real budget buy, so it's not going to break the bank if they lose it. If you don't need the bells and whistles of a smart phone, then look to the Nokia 100 to be your best decision on the basic phone market.

Best Windows: The Nokia Lumia 920 or 620...

Windows phones are becoming increasingly popular, thanks to the Windows 8 update which is a far better operating system than any of the older, clunkier Windows versions. If you're looking for a Windows model then your obvious manufacturer of choice is going to be Nokia, since they make the widest range of Windows devices. There are two choice depending on your budget. The Nokia Lumia 920 is the flag ship Nokia Windows model, has a great screen, huge processing power and a great user interface. It also has a premium price tag. If you're looking to save, then look at the Nokia Lumia 620. It has many of the same features as the 920 model, though a smaller screen and slower processor. It's still a great Windows phone though, and comes in significantly cheaper than the Lumia 920.
