Given the NFL's popularity, it's no surprise that there are plenty of sites and blogs out on the internet to get NFL news and opinions; in fact, for someone just beginning to look, it can be a bit overwhelming? Should you go to ESPN? A local newspaper? Search for a blog? Sometimes those are good options, but finding a handful of great sites and reading them regularly is the easiest and best way to go.

To aid in this, I have created a list below of the best NFL-related websites and placed them into one of several categories: news, opinions, draft, and blogs. Each website will be described below and a URL will be provided.

News & Information Sites
ProFootballTalk - http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/category/rumor-mill/
Mike Florio has been writing NFL news (and some opinions) for ProFootballTalk (PFT) since November of 2001 and the site has now become the best place on the web to find any and all NFL news and rumors.

Pro-Football-Reference - http://www.pro-football-reference.com/
Simply the best public statistical database for the NFL, Pro-Football-Reference has several search tools to find specific players or seasons, and even has game logs going back 40 years.

Analysis & Opinion
National Football Post - http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/
While National Football Post (NFP) also has news, it's strength lies in the great analysis from former, players, GMs, team presidents, and agents as they break down issues related to anything and everything in the NFL today. Nowhere else can you find an analysis of the top safety prospects, how to beat the Tampa-2 defense, and an explanation of the uncapped year, all in the same day.

Peter King's Monday Morning Quarterback - http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/writers/peter_king/archive/
Peter King has been writing about the NFL for a long time and has many connections and is a fantastic NFL reporter. His analysis is often hit or miss and should not be taken as gospel, but his abilities as a writer and reporter are top notch.

Draft Sites
WalterFootball - http://walterfootball.com/
If you can overlook the site's spartan and dated design, you'll find some of the best draft analysis on the web from Walter Cherepinsky and Matt McGuire. Their commitment to NFL draft scouting and coverage is amazing, and they both work hard to bring you the best coverage they can.

Draft Countdown - http://draftcountdown.com/
Scott Wright's Draft Countdown is a slick and useful draft site with mock drafts and player rankings. While it's not updated as often as WalterFootball, it certainly has quality information.

Draft Guys - http://draftguys.com/
From the creators of Football Guys, comes Draft Guys, where Cecil Lammey, Sigmund Bloom, and others break down players, focus on small-school guys, and travel to all the college all-star games and provide podcasts and information.

SB Nation - http://www.sbnation.com/
SB Nation is home to the top fan blogs on the internet, and is the home of such greats as MileHighReport, Arrowhead Pride, and FieldGulls. If you want the best coverage of your favorite NFL team, don't go to the local newspaper, check out your team's SB Nation blog.

Smarter Fans - http://smarterfans.com/
Created by a former SB Nation writer, Smarterfans is a small, but growing, blog that aims to compete with the likes of Peter King and Gregg Easterbrook with his format and ideas.

Pro-Football-Reference Blog - http://www.pro-football-reference.com/blog/
The blog of the previously mentioned stats website is a fantastic place to view historical statistical analysis and better learn the context and history of the league.
