Huawei is a company that many of us might not have heard of.  Recently Huawei has been busy launching a new range of smartphones, and is trying like companies such as ZTE to launch them in the high profit but super competitive premium smartphone marketplace.

In this article we will look at the best new Huawei phones for 2012, examining ones which are on sale now or that are going to be in the year ahead.

Who is Huawei?

Before we start looking at phones, a quick background on who Huawei actually are. Huawei is a Chinese company that specialises in networking and telecommunications equipment. It was founded in 1987 and employs over 110,000 people. It has 20 research and development units around the world and almost half of their staff is involved in R&D in some way. In 2012 is had revenues of $28 billion and is now the second largest supplier of mobile telecommunications infrastructure in the world.

Huawei Ascend P1 and Ascend P1 S

The Huawei Ascend P1 was announced at CES in January 2012 with an expected release date of Q2 2012. The phone runs a 540x960 pixel 4.3 inch AMOLED display made from Corning Gorilla Glass. It has an 8MP camera with 1080p video recording functionality combined with a dual core 1.5Ghz CPU.  The Huawei Ascend P1 will have Android V4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and may well be one of the first phones to launch with this new software. The Huawei Ascend P1 S is basically a slimmer version of the phone, with a thinner profile and larger battery.  These two Huawei phones are like to the company’s best in 2012, and will be competitors to the likes of HTC, LG and Samsung.

Huawei G7300

The Huawei G7300  was announced and released in the latter stages of 2011. The phone features a 312Mhz CPU and is unlikely to be competing with the Ascend above. It has a custom operating systems that runs on its 3.5 inch touchscreen.  This is a budget phone that you should be able to find for around $150. The Huawei G7300 would be a good phone for children as it supports up to 16Gb in microSD cards and has a standard audio jack for headphones.

Huawei U8350 Boulder

The Huawei U8350 Boulder was announced and released in late 2011 and is another bargain phone although it does use Android v2.2 as its OS. It has a 528Mhz processor and has a 2.6inch touchscreen combined with a QWERTY keypad. This would be another good phone for those with children, or people who like to write text messages and emails from the phones.

What is the best new Huawei phone for 2012?

The best new Huawei phone for 2012 will be the Huawei Ascend P1 S. The Ascend P1 S will have a sleek form factor and will be a competitor for phones from Apple, HTC, LG, Samsung and ZTE. The other phones in Huawei’s range for 2012 are good, but are not as impressive as the Ascend P1 S.
