The Best Travel Mug To Keep Coffee Hot For Hours

By Edited Nov 13, 2013 5 18

If you are looking for the best travel mug to keep your coffee hot for a long time then be hard to beat getting your hands on this travel mug by Thermos. Thermos has a long history of producing quality food jars, travel mugs, and other portable food and beverage containers and the new models show their quality is not declining.

If you are anything like my wife and I, spending money is not something that you enojy doing. Most people like to keep their expenses low and when it comes time to buy something the lower end of the price range is usually the most appealing route. The problem with this is that when you buy cheaper items the quality usually suffers.

Over the past ten years I must have gone through at least 10-15 different cheap travel mugs. Some of them were plastic which leaked a bit and didn’t retain their heat. Some were aluminum and these too leaked and didn’t keep drinks hot or cold for very long. This was fine, it wasn’t a big deal and it was easy to overlook, which is why I did it for so long but once your get your hands on a quality item then your eyes open to what you’ve been missing.

was my first foray into buying high quality travel coffee mugs. In December 2010 I purchased one for my wife who needed a new mug because her last one started leaking too much. Considering she likes to drink her hot tea very slowly I figured she’s appreciate a nice travel mug that didn’t leak and that wouldn’t let her tea get cold even when she slowly sips on it over the course of a few hours.

Browsing through the various products on Amazon I came across this coffee mug from thermos and noticed that it had well over 300 reviews from actual customers and had a star rating well into the fours, nearly as high as their star ratings can go.

Update: The mug now has nearly 1300 positive reviews.

After reading the product description and then skipping to the reviews I found countless people saying they could put hot coffee in the mug, seal the lid, then throw it upside down into their backpack and walk around for hours with little concern over leakage. They would then open the lid to drink from hours later and the temperature would be just like it was when the beverage was poured in.

Best Travel Mug Reviews Of The Thermos Stainless King

Slightly skeptical I figured it had to be a good mug since so many people gave similar reviews. I had never purchased a mug like this before – in fact most travel cups I purchased were in the $4 to $10 range but this one was on sale for just under $25. Since it was a Christmas present I decided to act and couldn’t have been happier.

The Best Leak-Proof Coffee Travel Mug – Product Description

This Thermos leak-proof coffee and beverage mug will keep your coffee hot for a long time. The product description says it is insulated well and will keep beverages hot for hours while staying cool to the touch on the outside and this is very true. Having tested this myself I went on a 7 hour car ride and it kept my wife’s tea hot enough to burn the tongue for at least the first three hours and the tea was still hot at the end of the trip.

The mug is also supposed to be leak-proof and although we didn’t turn the mug upside down and jostle it around for hours at a time we saw no sign of leakage. I would be surprised if this mug developed even the slightest leak without some significant neglect.

The mug holds 16 ounces of beverage and is indeed cool to the touch even when boiling water is poured into it. I have experienced no condensation formation on the mug and the lid comes apart very easy for cleaning.

Shopping Tips - Finding The Best Travel Mug For Less

A lot of people have gravitated to shopping online but even in 2011 there is still a select group of people who are dedicated traditional retail shoppers. Those people would be happy to know that this travel mug can eaily be found in stores like Target although for a higher price. I recently saw this mug displayed on the automotive shelf at my local Target selling for $27 but the same mug is sold for less online. Now prices fluctuate periodically and the mug may not always sell for that price but you can usually realize a savings of almost 15 percent by simply buying it online.

If you are looking for a high quality travel mug that will keep your coffee hot and won’t leak then this is an excellent option. It is more expensive than the $5 travel mugs found in Walmart but the quality is well worth it in my opinion. This mug isn’t the only option either, there are many similar mugs with high customer reviews from different brands and sold at different prices but the best tip in buying a mug is this to monitor the customer reviews of products you are interested in and stick to the consensus of customers who have gone before you. After all, if you buy something and it doesn’t look like it will work out you can always return it for a refund.

Very nice aesthetic appeal to this article. I've been looking for the best coffee cup for a long time, but I'm cheap! This one looks good though.

Ive been cheap my entire adult life with travel mugs and now I'm wondering why. :) My wife is convinced we need to get a second one for me so that stop using my plastic McDonalds travel mug which is starting to fail and the plastic seams. :) It's hard to argue with her after owning this mug for a few weeks.

I used a cheap travel mug for years until one day on the way to an interview, I thought I felt a bee sting on the right side of my chest while driving.

No bee... it was hot coffee dripping... coloring my white dress shirt with a 4 inch brown spot for decoration. Ouch!

40 minutes from home, a $23 investment would have saved me a panic trip to the shopping mall on the way to the interview.

Thanks for the interesting article.

ps: Got the job, but the old travel mug is history!

I can really see the benefit of buying a quality product like this travel mug rather than something you are going to need to throw out in weeks.

I got one and my brother-in-law borrowed it and now it is in another state. So, if you get one don't loan it out, hide it.

Ha! I just saw your comment - that's too funny. Yeah, this isn't a mug we'll be lending out very often - we'll lend the other cheapo travel mug we own and keep this good one for ourselves.

I take it these are made with neoprene? Seems the best way to keep drinks insulated, and keep your hand comfortable at the same time. I love using beer koozies to keep my beer cold. I'll need to now buy one of these for my green tea. Well done chezfat.

They are making Thermoses so good these days, nothing like my memories of the big bulky plastic jugs from my childhood.

I was surprised at just how long my coffee stayed hot in the Thermos travel mug. Amazing!

man, I've been drinking my coffee out of this mug for the past couple weeks now on a daily basis and it consistently keeps my coffee hot for well past the five hour mark. I fill it at 7am and it's still very hot at noon and the mug is in the "open" position the whole time. It's crazy!

The last thing I owned made by Thermos had G.I. Joe all over it and came with my lunch box. I'll definitely be picking one of these up.
