The Best Way to Get Rid of Bad Breath

By | Aug 5, 2010 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

Nobody wants to have bad breath and yet bad breath or halitosis is a common problem. Often bad breath is not caused by any serious medical condition but rather it is the result of poor oral hygiene. Below I list the things you can do to get rid of bad breath or halitosis.

The first thing to do is to brush your teeth three times a day: after breakfast, after lunch and just before you go to bed. Regular teeth brushing prevents not only tooth and gum decay but also does a lot to freshen your breath. If you don't brush your teeth properly then food stays in your mouth and causes your breath to smell. After brushing your teeth it is important to use an antiseptic mouthwash such as Listerine. This kills bacteria in your mouth and will do a lot to improve the smell of your breath.

Another important thing to do is to use dental floss to clean between your teeth. All dentists recommend the use of dental floss. Brushing your teeth often fails to remove debris trapped between the teeth. Only flossing can do this. If you don't floss then the food caught between your teeth will lead to cavities, gum disease and bad breath. Bacteria feed on rotting food and it is these bacteria that are normally responsible for the sulfurous smell associated with bad breath.

It is not good enough to just use a tooth pick to try and remove the food stuck between your teeth. A tooth pick is too big to get properly between your teeth and by attempting to use a tooth pick to do this you can damage your teeth.

The most important step you should take to stop bad breath is to buy a cheap tongue cleaner or tongue scraper. It is easy to buy a tongue scraper at a drug store or online by using the search phrase "where to buy a tongue scraper". Of all the tongue scrapers available, metal ones do the job best.

To use a tongue scraper simply scrape along the tongue from the back to the front. The first time you do this you will be shocked at the amount of gunk removed from your tongue. The tongue contains 90% of all the bacteria in the mouth. By cleaning your tongue every morning with a tongue scraper you stop the build-up of these bacteria that are causing your bad breath.

If still your bad breath persists even though you are brushing your teeth three times a day, rinsing your mouth with mouthwash, flossing and using a tongue cleaner it is clear you have a more serious medical condition, and you should seek further advice from your local doctor.
