The Best Ways to Quit Smoking - You Can Quit Smoking Forever

Most of us know that quitting smoking is a good thing for us and we want to know what the best ways to quit smoking are. Everybody knows that smoking is bad for you, in fact I don't think there is one person that could disagree with this. Anyone who smokes is now being made to feel socially unacceptable. Smoking causes health problems to you and to those around you. There are so many different methods of quitting smoking.

The best ways to quit smoking for one person are not necessarily the best ways to quit smoking for another person so there is no one specific answer to the defined question. I personally found success in stop smoking patches, although I had tried quit smoking gum, quit smoking pills, and had gone through so many attempts to quit smoking naturally. None of this seemed to be working until I found the quit smoking patches.

You may have to try different methods before you will find the best ways to quit smoking for you. I can however give you a few tips that will help you regardless of the method that you choose.


The first tip I would give you is to sit down and work out exactly when you have the greatest desire to smoke. This is different in everyone. Some people find that they have the greatest urge for a cigarette first thing in the morning more than any other time. Other people find that the best cigarette of the day is after a meal. A friend of mine used to chain smoke when she was on the telephone. Make a list of your own particular areas where you need to light that cigarette. You are trying to find out what your triggers to smoke are so that you can figure out how to deal with these situations. If you can avoid the situation altogether then this is good. But there are a lot of times which you cannot avoid the situation, for instance getting up in the morning and lighting your first cigarette. So you must be able to devise methods which will allow you to deal with any of these situations in a calm and relaxed way.

So the next tip I can give you is to actually set a time for yourself to give up. In order to achieve anything in life you must make the attempt in a structured and organized way. This is the same with giving up cigarettes. Don't just choose an arbitrary date; choose a day which is not too far away, less than a week, and a time when you know you will not be under too much pressure. This is important for your first couple of days. But please do not use this as a way of procrastinating from the task at hand. The idea is to set that date to give up the cigarettes and stick to it.

Another thing that you can do to help you overcome the quitting smoking side effects is to find different ways to help you relax. I personally joined a tai chi class which helped to focus my mind for two evenings per week. It also helped me when I was at my most stressful moments because I would practice some of my tai chi moved which helped me to bring my body back into calm state of being. Once you have discovered the best ways of quitting smoking for you, you must realize that it is only with time and patience that you will be able to defeat the nicotine urge.
