The Best iPhone Deals on the UK Market

By Edited Jul 2, 2014 0 0

iPhones are pretty expensive. Apple's best-selling mobile device is awesome, but it can set you back a fair amount of cash. Spending over five hundred pounds on a phone is out of most people's reach these days, but there are ways that you can save. Today we're talking about the best deals on iPhones in the UK. From contract deals to refurbished phones, we have all the info you need to get the cheapest iPhone possible. So if you really want that iPhone, but you can't afford to pay full price, then read on to find out how to get savings...

The Best iPhone 5 Deals...

The iPhone 5 is the flagship iPhone model. It's got the largest screen ever seen on an iPhone, and a clear, bright retina display. If you want the top end iPhone the best thing you can do is head to Orange to sign a contract. You'll get the iPhone 5 for a one-time payment of £299.99, as well as a calling plan. The plan will cost you £10.50 a month, and includes thirty calling minutes, five hundred text messages and 100 MB of data. It's a twenty four month contract, and the complete cost of the contract over that period is just £551.99. That's a pretty fair deal on a phone that would cost you around that much to buy up front.

The Best iPhone 4S Deals...

If you're willing to sacrifice and go for an older model, you can save more money. The iPhone 4S does have a smaller screen and slightly less processing power than the iPhone 5. However, it has the same build quality, the same camera, and runs exactly the same software as the iPhone 5, so there really is very little difference in functionality. Again, the best deal on an iPhone 4S is with Orange. This time you pay £259.99 for the hand set, and get the same calling plan. So that's thirty calling minutes, five hundred text messages and 100 MB of data for £10.50 per month: Over the course of the twenty four month contract that comes to a total of £511.99.

The Best iPhone 4 Deals...

Going for the iPhone 4 is an even better deal. Sure, it's an older model, and doesn't compete with the iPhone 5 or 4S, but it's still a great quality, mid-range phone. And if you're a normal phone user, then you're not going to see too much difference in functionality. The best iPhone 4 deals are with Vodafone. You get the iPhone 4 for free as well as a calling plan. The calling plan includes one hundred calling minutes, three thousand text messages and 100 MB of data, and costs £35 per month on a twelve month contract. That makes the total cost of the contract £420; if you're looking for the best iPhone 4 deals, it really doesn't come better than that.

Not Signing a Contract...

If you can't, or don't want to, sign a contract then there are other options available to you. Some people aren't eligible for contracts, usually because they can't pass the required credit check, or maybe you're currently in a contract that hasn't ended yet. And if you're a light phone user, you'll end up saving more money by buying a phone out right and then getting a pay as you go plan. Light users rarely come close to using up the calling, texting and data limits included on a contract, so end up paying for services that they don't use, which is why pay as you go plans are better. So, if you need to buy the phone up front, here are a couple of great options...

Refurbished iPhones...

Some mobile service operators sell refurbished iPhones, though the best place to look is on Apple's website. A refurbished phone can save you a lot of money on what is essentially a brand new device. These are models that have been sold and then returned, usually simply because the customer changed his mind. The phones are cleaned, rebooted and professionally inspected before being give a certificate for resale. They also come with a ninety day warranty, or if bought directly from Apple with a full two year warranty. This makes buying a refurbished phone much less risky than buying second hand, since the phone has been inspected by a technician and you get a warranty. In looks and function the phone will be indistinguishable from a new model and nobody but you will know that it's not fresh from the box. Occasionally, phones are returned because they're defective. If this is the case, the fault should have been properly fixed before the phone is certified for resale. If you choose not to buy direct from Apple you may find that the phone is not in its original packaging, or that there is a generic charger, but these things don't affect the phone's functionality in the least.

Trade it In...

Your other option is to get a trade in. If you have an older iPhone, Apple will allow you to trade it in for store credit. The amount of money you get for the trade depends on the age and condition of your old phone, and since Apple gives store credit rather than cash you will have to buy your new phone direct from Apple. But this is a good way to get a discount on your new device. Details are available on Apple's web site, or you can go to your local Apple store and get an estimate and more information there. If you don't have an old iPhone, but another model, or you don't want to deal direct with Apple, or prefer cash to store credit, there are other places that will buy your older model phones from you. Most of these are web sites that give you cash when you send your old phone to them. You can get some great deals, but it is important to check that you're dealing with a reputable site before sending your phone.
