Caffeine is the main reason that tea and coffee lovers across the world consume these hot beverages. However, excess caffeine can have adverse effects on the body, which is why many individuals have switched over to green tea. Green tea is certainly a better substitute to regular tea or coffee because it contains a lower amount of caffeine.

Green Tea Is a Better Source of Caffeine

Excess caffeine can have adverse effects on the body leaving you feeling anxious and jittery. Theanine, an amino acid present in green tea but not in coffee, relaxes and soothes you as the caffeine lifts you up to keep you relaxed. Green tea is a good alternative if you're looking to experience that energy boost without getting the jitters or a headache.


In addition, regular tea is prepared after fermentation, whereas green tea leaves go through a process of steaming. Therefore, all the natural beneficial ingredients in green tea remain intact because the leaves are not oxidized. 

Amount of Caffeine in Various Drinks

Let’s take a closer look at the actual amount of caffeine in green tea and other sources. Regular coffee contains 95 milligrams of caffeine whereas instant coffee has 62 milligrams per cup. Decaf has 2 milligrams of caffeine while black tea has 47 milligrams. Diet cola drinks contain 47 milligrams and regular cola has 35 milligrams. Green tea contains anywhere in between 30 to 50 milligrams of caffeine, depending on the manufacturer.

This clearly indicates that the amount of caffeine in green tea is considered safe. In fact, it provides numerous health benefits. According to research conducted in Japan, caffeine improves memory. When mixed with carbohydrates, caffeine replenishes glycogen quickly after working out.  For those who are thinking of detoxing, caffeine in green tea can be of great assistance because it cleans the colon and detoxes the liver.

Another miraculous benefit of caffeine is that it has the ability to stimulate hair growth for men and women who face baldness. So instead of using various creams and lotions, or go for surgery, the consumption of caffeine can help bald people.
