The Catcher in the Rye Movie

By Edited Nov 16, 2013 0 2

Many of the readers of J. D. Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye have over several decades wanted a movie based on the book. A The Catcher in the Rye Movie, with the story about Holden Caulfield, the novel's anti hero, the icon for rebellious teenagers' who shared hopes and dreams about how life could be.

Such a movie has been wanted, not only by the readers who love the plot in the book, but also Hollywood have been very interested in acquiring the rights to make The Movie The Catcher in the Rye.

However, J. D. Salinger did not want The Catcher in the Rye to be produced as a movie or as a theater play because he found it 'unactable'. And there are several public known incidents where Salinger turned down offers from Hollywood and Broadway.

The list of male actors who have dreamed about a chance to play Holden Caulfield in a movie The Catcher in the Rye starts long ago and is long, and the list includes names such as: Marlon Brando, Jack Nicholson, Leonardo DiCaprio, and John Cusack. The list of directors who wanted to make The Catcher in the Rye as a movie includes Steven Spielberg and Harvey Weinstein.

While J. D. Salinger was strongly against the idea of the movie The Catcher in the Rye when he was alive, then there might be hope for a film production now. J. D. Salinger died on January 27, 2010 at an age of 91. The reason behind the hope for a movie being produced now after his death is that he years ago wrote a letter in which he indicated that the rights to a movie production could be sold after his death.

But will the movie The Catcher in the Rye ever be made? Well, the estate representing the heirs of J. D. Salinger has announced that nothing has changed after the death of Salinger; and statements from Hollywood in general also indicates that there are no plans about The Catcher in the Rye Movie.

But the rumors are nourished from many sources, most concrete from bookmakers all over the world, and betting companies that calculate when a movie production will take place.
The big question is then: Who will become the star as the main character, the teen-age icon Holden Caulfield? One of the most interesting wildcards could be Justin Bieber. A bet at a bookmaker on the 16 year old singer would give the odds 12 to 1 according to the information in www.bettingpro.com's article: Justin Bieber likely to star in Hollywood Blockbuster The Catcher in the Rye.
The Catcher in the Rye Movie with Justin Bieber as Holden Caulfield would obviously result in a renewal of The Cult The Catcher in the Rye.

The students at the high school where I work read the Catcher in the Rye. I hope they make a movie of the book someday. The kids actually ask about this very subject all the time ... when will we get to see the movie?!
