The Causes of Man Boobs
Gynecomastia, or man boobs, is the medical term which refers to breast formation in males, and there are a several main causes for this situation. It occurs most commonly in neonates (young babies) and then to boys about the time they hit puberty. During puberty the condition is normally caused by the fluctuating hormone levels present in the young male's body, and it usually will correct itself without requiring either medication or any surgery.
Noticeable breast formations in older, post pubescent age groups of males could be due to different causes, and could be much more difficult to reduce or remove. One of the most common reasons for this situation is being overweight, tho you don't have to be obese to be considered overweight, any extra weight can do it. For some people this is just where the fat collects, but for others they tend to have an additional amount of fat cells in their breast areas. Even if you don't have more fat cells in that area, the fat tissue is going to be bigger in the chest area with extreme overweight, as it does in other areas of your body. Bottom line - you have extra fat in your body if you are overweight. Where you have a problem is this fat helps create estrogen which, in women, causes breast development. This combination of being overweight, with more fat cells and estrogen present, will help create the possibility of "man boobs" developing in your chest area. Use of certain medications can be the cause of the development of breast tissue in men. Ingestion of hormones (not just estrogen) can also be responsible for breast development. Testosterone favored by body builders can cause gynecomastia. This happens due to the testosterone which can actually covert into estrogen like chemicals in the body. Body builders tend to take additional drugs, like the breast cancer drug - tamoxifen, to counteract the possibility of having increased estrogen effects. Drugs such as cimetidine, spironolactone, finasteride, and omeprazole, even though they are non-hormone, could cause breast development.
It has also been discovered that man boobs could be a result of kidney or liver disease, as well as tumors such as testicular tumors. I understand. Man boobs are a very common cause of Teenagers and sometimes younger boys for not doing exercise. It can be very distressing.
