The Corner Writing Desk
If you are looking for a writing desk, chances are that you are interested in something small enough to fit compactly into a room without taking up a lot of space. Writing desks are ideal for bedrooms, children's room, home studies and even living areas. They are usually small and compact, and can slip into an empty space without overpowering the rest of the furniture in your room. Aside from their space saving properties, they are also extremely useful pieces of furniture.
A small writing desk has a surface for writing and usually either small draws along the front of the desk, or a hutch that sits on the back of the desk. While they may not be large enough for a desk top computer, they are perfectly big enough for a laptop, or for a writing pad and pens. Usually there is enough space to add a small office organizer where you can store pens, pencils a stapler and other essential items used when writing. The draws are not excessively big, but again they are usually sufficiently sized to store writing paper and pads and other essentials needed in a home office or used while studying.
If you are really tight on space, yet you have an empty corner, you may want to look into purchasing a corner writing desk. While any rectangular shaped desk can fit snugly into a corner, the corner writing desk is specifically designed to slip perfectly into a corner with no space wasted. Usually the top section of the desk is shaped in such a way, usually a triangular shape, that the back of the desk fits into the corner while the sides of the desk follow the angle of the wall. The triangular shaped top of the desk gives you plenty of room at the front of the table for writing, and there is usually enough room along the front of the desk for two or three drawers. Unless the desk is unusually wide, you do not have room for a hutch however.
They come in all kinds of sizes and styles, ranging from antique look-a-likes to the very modern and contemporary style desks, so it should not be difficult to find something that fits with your existing decor. You can find a white writing desk, wood writing desks and even hard plastic writing desks. Evidence that the small writing desk can become even smaller in the corner writing desk!
