The Delicious Story Behind Coffee

By | Jun 23, 2010 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

A member of Coffea, family of Rubiaceae. It is a green plant with small seeds called the coffee bean. These seeds are roasted and ground to make a coffee drink. It was discovered by the Arabs during the Middle Ages and was brought to Europe and then to India and on to the West and East Indies and then to South America. It was brought and introduced to Brazil in the year 1727. Since Brazil has a good climate and rich soil the coffee plant was able to reproduce faster here than in other countries. That's why Brazil was found to be the major producer and supplier for the world's coffee supply.

A legend was once told that it was discovered by Kaldi, a goat herder. He led his goats to a certain plant and noticed the goats' energetic behaviour after they had eaten the leaves and fruits of the coffee plant. Kaldi then decided to try the plant's leaves for himself and he too felt alive and became energetic.

He then brought a sample of the plant's leaves and fruits and gave them to an Abbot who lived in the monastery. Kaldi told the story to the Abbot and then decided to cook the fruit and its branches. This produced a very bitter drink. The Abbot threw it onto the fire and the beans produced a certain aroma that led the Abbot to make a drink from the roasted fruit of the plant and this is how coffee became a drink.

From that point on, coffee has become the most popular beverage in the world and as time evolves different ways to prepare coffee drinks were introduced. Right now coffee is not only prepared as a hot beverage but also cold and blended as well. These different options have pleased many coffee drinkers and helped grow the business of coffee shops.

However, because of the caffeine content, coffee can have stimulating effects to an individual. This effect depends on how a person's body takes the caffeine. Some might feel a certain rush in the body or a palpitating heart. Others might say it will keep them awake if they drink coffee. But regardless of caffeine's effect on you, always bear in mind that too much is hazardous. So let us drink coffee in a way that will not harm our body.

To enjoy coffee the easy way, without resorting to instant coffee, there are only two things you need. The first one are espresso pods and the other is a coffee machine to make the coffee from these coffee pods. A great example of this is a DeLonghi coffee machine.
