After reading the title to the article you may think that I am wearing a tinfoil helmet on my head, but the truth is that I have always been fascinated with the subject. Whether we are alone in the universe is one that does not have a certain scientific answer, but I suspect that with the billions of suns and trillions of planets in the cosmos there is a good chance that life exists in plenty of places. Of course, the question is whether or not the life on other planets has the technology and is lucky enough to have actually found our small planet among all the ones out there.
Why UFOs Are Real
When people hear me say that UFOs are real I get laughter from them, but Unidentified Flying Objects actually exist. Anything that is up in the sky has the potential of being a UFO if you do not know what you are looking for. An alien spaceship which you knew for a fact that was a spaceship would no longer be unidentified. It would then be an IFO because you would have identified it as an alien ship. Of course most of the things that you see in the sky like planes, helicopters, balloons etc. you already know what they are, but if you had never seen one then you would be looking at an unidentified flying object and therefore UFOs exist, but they are not aliens.
Would It Be Possible?
With so many planets and solar systems in the universe it makes sense to think that intelligent life could exist out there. Possibly that intelligent life is much more advanced than us and maybe they have resources that today we could not imagine. There is also the very depressing possibility that we are as good as it gets. We do not know because we do not have anything that we can base research on. Some people like to think that some governments already have alien technology, but if that were the case we would probably be more advanced than we are now. To have access to such technology would mean that we would probably be using it already to do our own traveling to the stars.
Another problem is that our planet is incredibly small and to find it, another civilization would need extreme luck. One of the theories that Alien traveler believers propose is that we have sent signals into space for a while now. Those signals are both intentional and unintentional because of our transmissions into outer space. The only problem is that those signals are very small in space and even if another civilization were to get them it would take thousands of years to reach them. By the time those signals get to them our civilization may no longer be here; not to mention that they would have to listen in our specific direction to receive such signals.
What To Expect
It is important to say that although highly improbable, the scenario is still possible. If that is the case, then what could we expect from them? World renowned theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking has warned that it could mean the end of humanity and would expect them to act the same way invading armies in human history have acted. He suggests that meeting an alien race that thinks like us but that is way advanced may not turn out so well for us.
Theoretical Physicist Michio Karu however would expect that an alien civilization that is that advanced is friendly, but if they were hostile Karu says that it would be like Bambi meeting Godzilla, which would not end well for Bambi. Another fun explanation is given by Neil deGrasse Tyson in the video below for Business Insider.
What About Eye-Witness Testimony?
The idea that aliens do visit is spread by people who have eye-witness, video or photographic “evidence”. While that is enough for a lot of people in today’s world you will need a lot more to have factual evidence. Remember that the movie “Independence Day” showed large space ships over New York City, Washington DC, Los Angeles and other major cities in the world. That means that it is possible for someone to use a computer to create very realistic looking video footage of a space ship. Would you take “Independence Day” as evidence of alien life? If you would not, then why would you take video evidence from anyone?
Eye-witness evidence is even less reliable because you could be looking at anything. More than likely if you see something in the sky that you do not what it is there is an easy explanation for it. There are planets, stars, satellites, high-flying planes, weather balloons etc. Unless you know what you are looking at you will be left with the question about what you saw. A lot of people then jump to the conclusion that what they saw was an actual alien space ship. Is it a spaceship because they do not know what they saw?
So, There Are No Alien Visitors?
Saying that we do not know does not necessarily rule out the possibility that we have in fact been visited by aliens. It could happen, after all the universe NASA calculated the universe as between 12 and 14 billion years old. Even if we took a civilization that is 100,000 years more advanced than us that would make them extremely technologically savvy. That means that the possibility does exist, but it would be more likely that we would know that by now.
The problem with the idea of an alien race visiting or invading for our resources is that we are very hard to find in the galaxy and even harder in the universe. There is also the possibility that other planets out there could be enough to give alien intelligent life with enough resources that they would not need to invade us. For now sleep well, because we are more likely to eventually leave the planet than to have alien visitors visit us.
