The Difference between New and Refurbished Medical Equipment

By | Sep 2, 2009 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

Most people working in the medical profession have had some experience working with refurbished medical equipment, and, though it might come as a surprise to some, most of them have had a good experience working with refurbished medical equipment. For the most part, the only difference between new and refurbished devices is the price. You can save over 50% sometimes on what you'd normally pay for new equipment. Everything from defibrillators to operating tables can be found used. Refurbished medical equipment is an especially popular choice for physicians who are setting up small practices and want to decrease the cost of setup.

However there are enough shoddy refurbished medical equipment dealers out there to make most people think twice before buying used. Buying new equipment means you know with more certainty what you're getting. There is a never-been-used-before guarantee of quality, and the factory warranty is usually longer than the warranty on refurbished equipment. High quality equipment with good warranties is easy to find new. It's just a matter of forking over the money. Yes it will cost more, but you don't have to worry as much about possible problems arising from previous use.

Now this doesn't mean that you can't find a piece of refurbished equipment that is of great quality and has as good of a warranty as a new piece of equipment; it just means that you'll have to do some more research if you opt to buy used. As far as quality assurance goes, refurbished means that the piece of used medical equipment has been worked on by expert biomedical technicians who have restored it to the best possible condition before it was put back on the market at a lower price. These technicians take great care to ensure that the device they're refurbishing works properly and is as durable as when it was new.

So if the savings are worth the extra shopping around, there's no reason not to try buying used medical equipment for your practice. Make sure that you do some background research on the refurbished medical equipment company before you buy from them. Look at the quality standards and check out some of the customer reviews they have online.
