The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Plugin Walkthrough - Windfall: A Jailbreak and A Book

By Edited May 1, 2016 0 0

The next quest in the Windfall plugin for Oblivion after finding the Varo ring in A Discovery is to get a member of your faction out of jail.

A Jailbreak

Again, this quest is mostly identical for both Varo's Knights and The Righteous.

"Perhaps there is a back way in. Perhaps someone could be 'persuaded' to let Ophia out. I'd better investigate the possibilities. I could always fight it out but the bounty could be astronomical, and the damage irreparable. I need a different approach to an all-out assault on the Legion."

It was mentioned earlier that Ophia or Elvetta, depending on your faction, had been imprisoned. Brend or Stilus wants you to get her out of the Jail. With Fracus leaving, the Jail is currently sealed. As Lieutenant Glavin is also no longer around (dead or fled, depending on your course of action), command has devolved to Sergeant Palentus Gravesius, as can be discovered by asking the Legion Soldiers. Palentus Gravesius can be found at the Legion Headquarters. After a long conversation, he will agree to release Ophia or Elvetta for 300 Gold, giving you a release for the guard outside. Return to the Jail, speak to the guard, then follow him inside to get Ophia.

Alternatively, you can break Ophia or Elvetta out of the Jail Cells. There is an entrance to them from the Sewers; entering the Sewers from the Slums is the closest point to the Jail Cells sewer entrance. Get into the Jail, pick the lock to Ophia or Elvetta's cell, and leave the same way.

Return to Brend or Stilus, who will both pay you 350 Gold.

A Book

Varo's Knights

"Finding the log book itself doesn't sound difficult at all, the Knights know right where it is. It is the "kill on sight" order the Righteous Guards have that causes a problem. I don't know how far the order extends. Will every peasant attack on sight? Or just the guards? Simply walking through the gates to the Slums is out of the question. I'll have to find another way in and out, and I'll need to be very cautious while I am doing this."

Brend wants you to go and get a book from Righteous Hall. Marching into the Slums is not going to work; the guards have been given orders to kill you and attack on sight. Instead, you are going to have to go through the Sewers again.

Use the entrance from the Commerce District; the room this brings you out into has a door leading to the Sewers in the Slums. There is an entrance to the Basement of Righteous Hall from these Sewers; this is locked and a guard patrols nearby. Some stealth options are recommended if you don't want to fight the guard.

Righteous Operations Log
In the Basement there are various members of The Righteous. During the day they will be practising in the other room; during the night some will be sleeping in the beds in room reached from the Sewers. The log book you need is on top of some crates in the sleeping area. When you take it, your log updates.

"This is the log I am looking for. Time to get back to friendly territory."

Return to Brend with the log (you can read it first if you want) and he will take it, giving you 250 Gold.

The Righteous

"Finding the log book itself doesn't sound difficult at all, the Righteous know right where it is. It is the "kill on sight" order the Castle Guards have that causes a problem. I don't know how far the order extends. Will everyone in Wealthy Section attack on sight? Or just the guards? Simply walking through the gates to the Wealthy Section is out of the question. I'll have to find another way in and out, and I'll need to be very cautious while I am doing this."

The Saint wants you to go and get a book from the Castle Barracks. Entering the Wealthy Quarter will result in you being attacked on sight. Your cuirass disguise obtained from the quest A Traitor will not work.

There are two ways of getting into the Castle Barracks. Stealth is useful for both methods. The Amulet of Shadows got from the quest A Relic is useful, as well as any other spells, potions and items that will help you hide. This is most easily done at nights; sneak into the Wealthy Quarter at the gate nearest the castle, and sneak behind the guard into the castle courtyard. There is an entrance to the Castle Guards here. The log you have come for is on the same floor, on top of a Crate in a storeroom.

Knight Operations Log
The second way is through the Sewers. There is an entrance to the Castle Servants Quarters from the Sewers. You will need to either get into the Sewers from the Slums or the Commerce District or through the Old Silver Mine visited during the quest A Sewer. The mine leads into the part of the Sewer system that the castle can be reached from. You will need to go to the Castle Guards by using the door from the jail area in the north, then enter the Castle Barracks to the south. Again, visiting the castle at night helps.

"This is the log I am looking for. Time to get back to friendly territory."

Take the log and return to Stilus, who will give you 250 Gold.

It now appears that Brend's wife has returned, and you need to pursue this in A Revelation.
