The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Plugin Walkthrough - Windfall: The Choice

By Edited Mar 12, 2014 0 0

Once you have reached Windfall Island in the Oblivion plugin Windfall and spoken to Dingbat Ottus you can start the Main Quest series whereby a new Count of Windfall is determined.

The Main Quest

There are two strands to this quest, depending on whether you decide to join Varo's Knights or The Righteous. Once you've made your choice, it cannot be undone. Neither side is that nice, so it doesn't really make any difference which you join. The Knights generally pay better.

The Choice

"I have been advised that Windfall is a divided city. Varo's Knights support the Count, Brend Varo, and control the wealthier area of the city. The Righteous are a rebellious faction that have control of the Slums. The Imperial Legion, separating the two groups, is patrolling the Commerce District. The Legion may be keeping the peace, but are likely causing a stalemate in the process. Either way, life in Windfall is liable to be easier if I can join one side or the other. But which one? And how?"

This quest determines which side you are going to join. You can ask around Windfall Town about Varo's Knights and The Righteous; although asking about joining the Knights in the Slums or The Righteous in the Wealthy Quarter doesn't go down too well. You will learn that to join Varo's Knights you need to speak to Volen Harbento and to join The Righteous to speak to Fiorde Club-Fist.

Varo's Knights

Volen Harbento
To join the Knights, go and find Volen Harbento in the Wealthy Section, who can usually be found in Brend's Barrels. When you ask to join the Knights, you have two options. You can either say you want to help, or that you've heard of Volen. Should you say you want to help, Volen tasks you with recruiting a new member for the Knights. Should you say you've heard of him, Volen takes offense (if you've been asking around, you will have heard stuff that doesn't portray him that well) and demands that to prove yourself you need to recruit two new members.

"I have made a few inquires around town and discovered that I would have to deal with Volen Harbento in order to join Varo's Knights. Volen wants me to perform a task as "proof of sincerity" as he puts it. I will need to recruit another member in order to join the Knights. Seems to me Volen just wants someone to do his job for him."

Asking people in the Wealthy Section who aren't already members if they want to join gets you referred to the Commerce District. Asking there points you to The Weary Traveller. If you speak to Frillia in the inn, she suggests five people: Nee-Hi, Rolena Strong-Arm, Galadwe, Parius Salonius and Saloud Club-Fist (no relation). Rolena and Galadwe will automatically join; Parius and Saloud join for a bribe of 25 Gold and Nee-Hi will just take your Gold and Beer, if offered.

"I have convinced someone else to join Varo's Knights. This should complete my initiation. I should report to Volen and confirm that I am now a member of Varo's Knights. Hopefully he will have some real work for me. "

Once you have your recruits, return to Volen. He gives you 25 Gold for each recruit, completing the quest. You are now a Page in the Knights.

"I have reported to Volen Harbento that I have completed the recruiting he had asked of me. I am now a member of Varo's Knights. As such, I should be accepted in Windfall's Wealthy Section. At first glance the Knights seem like any other organization. Nothing of note yet, except maybe Volen himself. He seems, shall we say, interesting. Maybe I just need to get to know him. Volen has a new assignment for me. He probably needs someone to pick up an order of take-out slaughterfish."

The Righteous

Fiorde Club-fist
To join The Righteous, go and find Fiorde Club-Fist in the Slums. He can usually be found in The Thirsty Peasant. You are given two options when you ask to join The Righteous; saying I've heard about you will result in you having to find one recruit, whilst saying that you want to help makes the requirement two.

"The people I talked to indicated that The Righteous originate out of the Slums. In order to join them I need to prove to a Nord named Fiorde that I am worthy of membership. It actually doesn't seem too difficult a task. I simply need to find another person to join The Righteous as well. It seems something Fiorde should be doing himself. I guess he needs more time to brag about his past exploits."

Asking people in the Slums who aren't already members results in it being suggested that you try the Commerce District. If you speak to Frillia in the inn, she suggests five people: Nee-Hi, Rolena Strong-Arm, Galadwe, Parius Salonius and Saloud Club-Fist. Rolena says she will sleep on it, Nee-Hi will just take your Gold and Beer and Galadwe will join straight away. Saloud and Parius will both join for 25 Gold.

"I have convinced someone else to join The Righteous. This should complete my initiation. I should report to Fiorde and confirm that I am now a member of The Righteous. Hopefully he will have some real work for me."

Once you have the needed recruits, return to Fiorde, who will pay you 25 Gold for each recruit, completing the quest.

"I have reported to Fiorde Club-Fist that I have completed the recruiting he had asked of me. I am now a member of The Righteous. As long as I am, the people living in Slums will welcome me as one of their own. The Righteous seem like any other organization. Nothing really stands out, good or bad. Fiorde is not quite what I expected for a rebel. Maybe I just don't know him yet. Fiorde has a new assignment for me."

After joining one of the factions in The Choice, you will be assigned your first mission, A Cave.
