A Special Kind of Berry
If you agree, she says that her Great-grandfather Svengar was a farm alchemist who created a new type of berry based on the Juniper. By itself, it's tasty, but it can also be made into a deadly poison with the right ingredients. Her family has a grove of these bushes, named Svengarberries, and they are Henrik's favourite. Freya wanted to make him some special treats using the berries but, because of the bandit threat, she is afraid to go and wants you to do it, for which she will reward you. She wants you to go to Pinecastle Grove to the northeast, which she marks on the map, and bring her some back.
"Freya has asked me to locate a special kind of berry that her great grandfather created called Svengarberries. She said they should be somewhere in Pinecastle Grove, across the river to the East."
Make your way to Pinecastle Grove, which is actually a cave that is, naturally, infested with bandits. When you reach the bush, you discover that it has been stripped of its berries, so you have to look further for clues. In the main room on a table with an Alchemy Lab is the Bandit Chief's Log. Apparently, they have found a buyer for the berries and have taken them to a landing on the coast.
"I found a note saying that the bandits were selling the berries for their especially noxious properties. The berries should be by a fishing shack along the coast to the east."
Go to the landing, which is a ruined building and a dock east of Splinterrock Point. There is a Chest there in which the berries are stored. Although there aren't any bandits around when the place is approached, three will appear when the berries are taken.
Once you have the sole sprig of Svengarberries, return to Freya. Tell her that bandits had broken into the grove, and that this was all you could get. Freya says that that will do, saying that at least she will be able to bake her husband's favourite pie for their anniversary and grow more bushes from the seeds, and apologises for the bandit problem. She takes the berries and gives you 50 Gold, 2 Apple Pies and 10 Salt Piles.
"I brought Freya the Svengarberries she asked for. She can use the seeds to replant more berries, while still having enough to make Henrik a nice Svengarberry pie."
This quest is started by speaking to Audmund at Audmund's Farm south of Amber Creek. Ask Audmund "How is your farm doing" and he will tell you that he has having a problem with his cattle wandering off. It's happened a few times in the past, but now it's got more serious, and he will pay for your help. When you agree, he tells you more.
His cattle has been turning up at Warmth's Edge Caverns in the north, which he marks on your map. He found the first cow with the help of the Hjorgunnars, and also saw a strange crystal in the cave. On the last visit, though, the cave was also inhabited by necromancers, so he was unable to get his cow back. Asking further questions reveals that the Guard is not available to help and he doesn't want to bother the Hjorgunnars again. He wants you to go to the cave, send his cow back - Audmund says that just a tap will send it back home - and eliminate the source of the problem.
"Audmund has asked me to head to the Warmth's Edge Caverns, on the northeast edge of the Amber Hold, to locate one of his missing cattle. he says that the caverns are full of necromancers, and there is also some kind of mysterious crystal there. He thinks he may be the reason why his cattle keep disappearing into the caves. The cattle needs to be prodded towards home, the necromancers dealt with, and the source of the problem eliminated."
Warmth's Edge Caverns are a typical necromancer lair. As always, they will raise any dead bodies as zombies. In one room there are several dead animals and Audmund's cow. Trying to send it home by activating it doesn't work; the cow will not budge. You will need to proceed to the frozen chamber where there are more necromancers and a Magic Crystal Fragment. Take the fragment. Once the fragment is taken, the quest Dreams in Oblivion will start, if it hasn't already; if it has started, it will advance further. On a table near the crystal is the Necromancer's Journal, which details their use of the crystal to attract the cows. Return back to the cow and activate it again, and it will apparently head back home (although it doesn't actually appear to leave). Don't kill the cow, or let it be killed during the fight in the caverns, or you will not get the full reward possible.
Return to Audmund and tell him that a magic crystal was attracting the cattle, and that the problem has been dealt with. He will thank you, give you 250 Gold and 3 Audmund's Seasoned Beef. He also says that he will sell you more beef at a discount; 48 Gold instead of 97.
"I've informed Audmund that his cow is on its way back, and the problem has been dealt with. He thanked me, and even offered me some of his specially prepared high quality meat, which I can now buy from him in the future, at a discounted price."
Audmund's Seasoned Beef will restore 50 Health when eaten, then 1 Health and 1 Stamina every second for 900 seconds.
