The Hardest Part about Continuing Education

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

The hardest part about continuing your education is convincing yourself to take the first step. You will be giving yourself even more work to do with no guarantee of a return. The possibilities are great, whether you are going back to get your GED, Bachelor's, or Master's. Jobs will open up for you and you may be able to live the kind of life you always wanted. But the first step is signing up.

Before signing up, you should set aside some time to talk about the decision with your spouse. If you have children, you will need to take them into consideration as well. School will take up a lot of your time with classes and homework. You will need to set up a prospective schedule because your work will impact not only you.

After setting up a schedule, you will need to decide what to go back to school for. It is easy to go back for your MBA but those seem to be a dime a dozen now. It is wise to choose something that you are interested in and will help you either advance or start your career.

Now that you have a degree in mind, you will have to find out whether or not you will need to take a graduate exam like the GRE. You may be lucky if you graduated school a few years ago, depending on where you went, and not have to take the exam. Generally a school requires you to have a certain GPA when you graduate to be able to bypass the GRE.

After you have passed your graduate exam, you need to decide where to go. There are a lot of options out there for people in the workplace. You can opt to take classes online or go to a campus. In my experience, most of the online classes cost a lot of cake. They may cost a lot but they also offer a convenience that a campus cannot. You won't have to drive or deal with traffic. You will be able to attend in your underwear if you wish. A campus offers a more collegiate and personal feel to learning. You will be able to have one on one conversations with your professors and will probably learn more. If you struggle with learning things on your own, you may want to consider a campus.

Going back to school is generally a good idea. People who continue their education tend to succeed in life. They have a lust to learn and that is then conveyed in their professions. Employers notice and encourage continuing education and the hardest part is convincing yourself to do it. Once that is taken care of, you can accomplish anything.
