By Edited Oct 21, 2016 0 1

Fruits are a vital source of vitamins, enzymes and minerals and an essential part of a healthy diet and eating regimen. Without a doubt, a diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables has a great number of health benefits, including a lessened risk of suffering from heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, certain types of cancer and gastrointestinal disorders. Fruits are digested easily by our bodies and provide a cleansing effect on the blood and digestive tract.

Almost all fruits contain high alkaline properties, a high water content, and are naturally low in fat and calories. Containing no cholesterol, many fruits are also great sources of fiber. Dietary fiber may reduce the risk of colon cancer and can assist in maintaining regular bowel function. To get the most fiber, consume whole fruits instead of juices, and eat the skin or peels of apples, plums, pears and other fruits. Bananas, berries and dried fruits are also excellent examples of fruits that are naturally high in fiber content.

Providing us with a wide spectrum of key vitamins, fruits such as grapefruit, limes, oranges, lemons and blueberries in particular, give us optimal levels of vitamin C. Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin which is stored in the liver and is important for growth and the repair of body tissues. Good sources of vitamin A are peaches, apples and apricots.

Many fruits (berries in particular) are also known to be high in important antioxidants. Antioxidants protect our cells from the damage that is caused by free radicals that arise from pollutants, stress and a number of environmental contaminants. The antioxidants found in fruits help neutralize damage from these toxins. Blueberries, strawberries, cranberries and raspberries are all high in antioxidants and should be eaten in abundance.

Unlike other sweet snacks and juices, fruit does not contain high fructose corn syrup and will not upset your body's blood sugar levels. Natural fruit also contains no artificial colorings, preservatives, flavorings, or trans fats, which have been linked to a numerous health problems.

To enjoy the greatest fruits health benefits, it is important to eat a variety of different fruits on a routine basis. The easiest way to ensure that you are varying your choics, think color. Consuming fruits of different colors gives you the widest range of valuable nutrients, including folate, potassium, and vitamins A and C. Some examples include red and green apples, purple plums, red watermelon, and oranges. To maintain a healthy variety, sample new fruits on a regular basis.
