Digestion is important, because it breaks down the food that we eat into its smallest part so that the nutrients will be absorbed by the body. And the main part of our body that does this is the gastrointestinal tract, which is commonly called the digestive tract. It is a system of organs that takes in food, digests it to extract energy and nutrients and expels the remaining waste.
Having a healthy digestive tract means having a healthy body, hence it is imperative to take care of our digestive system by having a healthy lifestyle. Thus, sleep, exercise, emotional well-being, and diet course should be the prime considerations in ensuring good over-all health.
I, being concerned with my digestive tract and health, sleep at regular periods of 6 to 8 hours daily to ensure that stress will not burden the way my system digests food that I take. Maintaining a positive outlook in life helps in proper digestion. Thus, one should engage in activities and leisure that promote the stimulation of nerves and hormones, like playing one's favorite sport or taking up a hobby that relaxes the mind. Of course, I do some stretching exercises at the least or the alternative is to jog during mornings so as to stimulate the muscular system. The lower GI tract functions well when the muscles connected with its functions are healthy.
Having a healthy diet is very important, perhaps the most important. What we take in into our mouths determine the nutrients and vitamins that our bodies absorb. Therefore, we should eat a variety of foods that provide us with all the nutrients that we need so that our health will be strong enough to make our bodies immune to diseases and sickness.
