The Junior Bridesmaid

People who are involved in your wedding should be chosen carefully. That is why it is part of the wedding checklist and should be established many months before the wedding. You have to choose your maid of honor, bridesmaids, best man, grooms men, flower girls and ring bearer. The participants of your wedding may also have an age bracket, for those relatives, sister or a daughter of your best friend that may not suit either a bridesmaid or flower girl role, she will be best suited as a junior bridesmaid for your wedding.

Junior bridesmaids are between 9 to 14 years of age. This age group is old to be a flower girl and too young to be a bridesmaid. If you have a girl that is in this age bracket that you want to join your wedding, she will surely fit as a junior bridesmaid.

The junior bridesmaid has her own responsibilities, similar to the other participants of your wedding party. During the wedding preparation, they are able to help out if the activity is appropriate and her parents are willing. If you want to throw a bachelorette party, she can help the other bridesmaids; again, if the activity is appropriate for her age. She can contribute games to play at a bridal shower and she can be involved in making favors, decorations and other things that are needed for the shower. During the party she can help in putting up decorations, assisting with the games and assisting the guests as they arrive.

The gown of the junior bridesmaid need not match, but should be coordinated with the bridesmaids and the flower girls. The bride may mix the colors of the gown of the bridesmaids and flower girls, making the color of the junior bridesmaid’s gown a blend of colors. For example if the color of the flower girl’s dress is baby pink with a dark pink sash and the color of the bridesmaids’ dresses is hot pink with a white sash, the junior bridesmaid gowns can be a combination of these shades. The parents should buy the dress. They can purchase it at a mall, in a department store, in a bridal shop or even at online bridal shops for discount junior bridesmaid dresses. The junior bridesmaid can also choose her own style and design as long as the color fits the motif and the bride agrees with it. They are also not required to wear high heeled shoes. Low heels or ballet shoes are preferable. The accessories depend on what the junior bride wishes to wear as long as the bride approves it.

During rehearsals for the wedding, the junior bridesmaid is obliged to attend to become familiar with her place in the processional and recessional, and be familiar with her duties during the wedding ceremony. She may be asked by the couple to do a reading or to contribute a song. After the wedding she can distribute confetti to the guests to throw on the couples as they proceed to the reception place.
