There are so many things to do in Tanzania that travelers may find themselves overwhelmed. However, this only means that everyone should be able to find something they want to do in this colorful African country.
Climb Mt. Kilimanjaro
As Africa's highest mountain, climbing Kilimanjaro is a goal that many people have claimed for their own. In fact, it is one of the most popular things to do in Tanzania. The climb takes five or six days, and most people go on guided tours that include qualified guides, food, and porters. Many tours schedule their arrival so that climbers can see the sunrise from the mountain's peak.
A Serengeti Safari
Serengeti National Park is home to elephants, lions, cape buffalo, leopards, rhinos and more. During certain times of the year, it also hosts the annual wildebeest migration. On a guided safari, encounters with all of these animals can be almost guaranteed. It's easy to schedule a safari from anywhere across Tanzania, as there are qualified guide companies throughout the country.
While Tanzania is not as well known for it's diving as it is for other things, the islands of Zanzibar and Pemba offer incredible opportunities for divers. Travelers can see exotic marine life, watch brightly colored fish dart in and out of coral reefs, and simply enjoy themselves underwater. In southern Tanzania, Chloe Bay has a protected marine park, where a reef runs, unsullied, the length of Mafia Island.
Tanzania offers both ocean and inland fishing. Big game fishing is popular, though not as well known in Tanzania as in Kenya. Thus, the oceans are emptier and the fish more plentiful. Tanzania's rivers and lakes are a great resource for both tackle and fly fishermen, and fishing is one of the mainstays of the local population. Sportsmen can explore remote areas and fish at the same time, so hiking and fishing is a popular combination in the country.
Boating and Canoeing
With the ocean and numerous rivers and lakes all available for recreational activities, it's no surprise that one of the most popular things to do in Tanzania is spend time on the water. There are many guided boat and canoe tours in the country for travelers to take advantage of, and boating safaris are even becoming popular in many areas of the country.
There are only a few of the things to do in Tanzania. Remember that the country has something for everyone, and so it shouldn't be hard to find activities that make you smile and will make your vacation adventuresome and rewarding.
