The Mara Salvatrucha Gang

By Edited May 3, 2015 0 0

MS-13, Mara Salvatrucha Stoners or La Mara

The Group was originally founded as Mara Salvatrucha Stoners, serving to protect their salvadorian friends..

Mara Salvatrucha Stoners, as it was originally established in Los Angelos, later spread to multiple locations.

The groups criminal activities are now transnational, meaning they operate from everywhere from Central America to Toronto in Canada. The group is primarily known for a notorious use of violence, furious revenges and a moral code which is to be taken seriously!

A few years ago, it was estimated that MS-13 had approximately 50.000-60.000 members and associates. Today, some people are claiming their have hundreds of thousands. But most people except higher MS-13 leaders are just guessing.

The Establishment of Mara Salvatrucha

As a result from the civil war in Central America in the 80's, alot of refugees emigrated to the US. Specially Los Angelos, where the group was originated. Due to the disrespect, violence and robbery they felt from other hispanics and gangmembers, they formed a gang themselves, mainly to protect each other, the salvadoran immigrants. This later changed, as the gang rose in popularity.

La Mara Salvatrucha Stoners

At first the gang was called La Mara Salvatrucha Stoners, implying alot of the group members were former salvadoran guerilla forces, and in the US, they were about protecting each other and 'having a good time', rather than killing, raiding and raping.

Then the booze changed to firearms, and the pot to potent and highly profitable crack. As they begang making a profit from their criminal activities, the 'stoner' was switched out to the numbers 13 showing their affiliation with the Mexican Mafia (M is the 13th letter in the alphabet, hence the number 13)

The number 13, has since been used as a guideline for their admission test- which means if you want to join MS-13, you wil get ruthlessly beaten by multiple gang members. The speed of counting depends on the reputaiton of the member and the situation of the 'beatdown'.

MS-13 Tatoos and Signs

The Gang Use Specific Tatoos and Symbols to Tell Their 'Stories'.

Their tatoos are often archievements which is written on their bodies, for instance- if a gang members buddy is killed, he will most likely get a 'teardrop'-tatoo below his left eye, and if he was to kill a member from a rival gang, he would get the 'teardrop'-tatoo below his right eye.
As a starting point, their tatoos are rather dark spirited, often with numbers such as 666.

When increasing their territory, going into foreign ground, they are wearing flashy colours, mainly to imtimidate and get attention, then later on, switches their hoodies/shirts/bandanas to yet another color, with different numbers on it.. (ie. 67, 76, 94, 58) This is done to hide from authorities, but you can be sure, that the numbers added will be 13.. (ie. 5+8 & 7+6)

Wanna Escape MS-13?

No You Don't

Once, a person has become a member of Mara Salvatrucha, they have crossed point of no return, making them unable to act without the leaders approval. The Gang has a no-tolerance policy on this area. In March 2004, a 16-year old boy named Edgar Guzman was caught by the US Border Patrol, when he was brought to US Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Colorado, he begged them not to deport him, as he claimed, they would sent him right into dead. The boy had left Guetamala on foot, where he had been a member of the MS-13 gang. His sole reason for leaving the country, was due to the membership in MS-13. He wanted to stay at some family and maybe even attend school in America.
"If I had stayed in Guatemala, members of the Salvatrucha gang would have killed me. I've seen them hit people with baseball bats and shoot them. I know they kill people. I know that if I go back to Guatemala they will torture me. They will kill me if I go back to Guatemala. They will kill me because I left the gang." - Edgar Guzman
In April 2004, Edgar was released from jail, and deported back to Guetamala. He didn't leave the house for 10 whole days, as he was afraid to face any former gang members. Unexpectedly, his grandmother dies, forcing him to leave the house, where he 2 blocks later on, is gunned down by former gang members.

Seems death is the only escape to MS-13

Criminal Activites

Today, the gang is more than 30 years old. Talk about being in the game for long. Sadly, the group has run out of control. Even the former MS-Stoners founders have been executed, as they allegedly should have tried to keep children out of crime.

The group has been rather violent in the past, however, they are paying more attention to the money business now than before. It is worth noticing, that their brutal behavior has not stopped.
In 2009, an MS-13 member were arrested before carrying out a hit on an I.C.E. agent, who reportedly had caused alot of troubles for the gangs through investigations and shutdowns.

In 2009 authorities form Colorado arrested 20 members from the gang, seized 10 pounds of methamphetamines, 5 punds of cocaine, a bit of heroin, firearm and a lesser amount of cash. Which indicates the gang either use or sell a wide sortiment of illegal drugs.
