The Top 5 Outrageous Saws

By Edited Aug 3, 2016 0 0

When you think of a saw, you probably think of an old fashion hand saw or maybe even your Dad’s skill saw that’s sitting in the garage. However, these are not your Dad’s typical woodcutting saws. These outrageous saws range from everything from a musical instrument to something strong enough to cut through bone.

Skull Saw

This old school surgical tool was used to remove fragments of the skull to allow for the access of other instruments during brain surgery. The blade of the tool is very much like that of a chainsaw, which was moved by turning the saw handle clockwise or counterclockwise so that the blade could cut clean through the skull bone. This is one intense saw!

Sternal Saw

A sternal saw is a modern day surgical tool used in many operations where the chest has to be opened up, such as a heart transplant.  This medical tool is designed to open up the patient’s chest by cleanly splitting the sternum, or breastbone, so that it may be cracked and opened up easily. The sternal saw looks very similar to that of a jigsaw.

Musical Saw

A musical saw, sometimes called a singing saw, is traditionally made using a simple hand saw and bow. When the saw is played with the bow, various harmonies can be created. The player of the this instrument will hold the handle between their legs, teeth facing towards them, and they will hold the end of the saw blade in their left hand. Using the hand holding the blade, they will bend the saw to create an “S” shape. This shape allows for a “sweet spot” on the blade where the best harmonies will come from. The player will use the bow along this sweet spot in order to create music.

Diamond Wire Saw

Another outrageous saw on the list is the heavy-duty diamond wire saw. These tools are typically used in industrial settings to cut through heavy metals and cast-iron piping. What makes this tool so special is its blade. The wire or cord that is used to do the cutting is embedded with an abrasive diamond material – that’s right, diamond. Since diamond is one of the world’s hardest substances, this saw is able to cut through just about anything!

Chain Saw

Chain Saw

Last but not least, one of the most popular saws of all is the mighty chain saw. This tool, for those who may not know, is a portable mechanical machine that runs on electricity, hydraulics, or even compressed air. They come in many sizes and have a strong chain blade that can cut through even the biggest of trees. So whether you are trimming some branches, pruning a hedge or taking down an entire tree, this barbaric saw is the way to go!
