The Process to Buying Baby Cribs

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

Many new parents can sometimes find it confusing when it comes time to purchase a new baby crib. With so many different options, the uninitiated can be simply overwhelmed by the sheer range and the large number of various types. In this article, I will take you through a quick 3 step process that you can do just before you start the shop for cribs. At the end, you will be able to use this process to create a short list of baby cribs that meets your needs.

Step 1. Determine if the baby crib is safe.

In America, a baby crib can't be sold unless it meets certain government standards. There are similar arrangements in other Western countries. Your first step is to look for the seal or verification that says that the crib meets the government safety standards. This reasonably easy for modern cribs but for antique or second hand cribs this maybe a little harder. For these older cribs, it is best to look at the modern safety standards, see whether they meet them and if not, make the necessary adjustments before you use the crib.

Step 2. Choose the type.

Standard cribs are the common rectangular shaped ones that have one or two sides that drop down. These drop down sides makes it much easier on your back to bend over and pick up your newborn. Canopy cribs are decorative pieces. Round baby cribs are smaller than standards cribs and are best used for homes that are smaller or require the crib to fit into the corner. Convertible cribs give you the benefit of being able to change it into a bed when your child has become a toddler with a few screw adjustments.

Step 3. Choose the color and style.

This really is a personal choice. The best way to choose the right color and style is to plan out your nursery furniture and decor. Take a look at baby magazines and baby furniture websites to see what is in fashion and what you like. The baby crib usually is the focal point of a nursery and is therefore the most important piece of furniture as far as the look and feel is concerned. Everything in the room should be chosen with this in mind.

These three simple steps will make the process of buying a baby crib that much easier. First, check the crib's safety standards. Second, choose the type; and thirdly, choose the color and style. Taking the few minutes to think about these things can save you hours in the shops.
