The Risk of Liposuction Surgery
Any type of surgery is a serious matter and elective cosmetic procedures are no exception. Therefore, any plastic surgery carries a certain amount of risk and anyone considering treatment should proceed as such. One of the most popular procedures is liposuction and is generally regarded as relatively safe among plastic surgery treatments.
While liposuction is considered a relatively safe procedure, there are mild risks that can occur and any serious complication is rare. A good plastic surgeon who performs proper preparatory and clean up procedures before and after the surgery will greatly reduce the chance of any problems that might arise.
The main reason patients experience problems during recovery is due to the lack of proper drainage in the treated area. Blood leaked from damaged blood vessels can pool under the skin and can cause conditions known as hematomas or seromas, both of which leave visible coloration in the skin.
Although rare, serious plastic surgery complications can arise from surgical risks and, more commonly, anesthesia complications. Depending on the scale of the procedure, a common problem with liposuction is excessive blood loss. This is due to the physical force used to break up fat cells to be removed from the body and puts nearby tissue at risk of trauma.
Anesthesia risks involve the dosage and the exact solution. In large doses, a certified anesthesiologist is required for the administration. The common side effects are allergic reactions to particular solutions in the drug. More serious complications are cardiac arrhythmia and even brain damage from the lack of oxygen.
Understanding the risks of plastic surgery is the first step to a safe and enjoyable experience. Never bargain when it comes to shopping for a surgeon and that means that a low priced solution must not compromise the integrity of the surgeon and his qualifications.
