The Simple Elegance of Eyelet Curtains

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

One of the ways in which you can brighten up a room in a relatively inexpensive way is to change the curtains that are dressing the windows. The curtains provide a frame of much of the furnishings within the room and they help to set the tone by means of the colors and by the style of the curtains.

One style that is catching on quickly is that of eyelet curtains. These curtains provide simple elegance that can be hung quickly and with a minimum of fuss. The curtain eyelets that are sewn into the top of the curtains and that are used to thread the curtain onto the curtain rods give them a simplicity that is to be envied.

The reason they are easy to handle is that the eyelets allow the curtains to slide easily along the curtain rod. It doesn't take a lot of effort to open the curtains or to draw them closed again. As opposed to curtain hooks that tend to occasionally become stubborn and decide to catch during their operation.

The eyelet curtains are hung so that the top edge sits marginally higher than the window edge and they hang down to the floor. When they are drawn closed they provide a pleasant wave effect and when they are thrown open the linear pleating become obvious. This pleat effect is caused by the way in which the eyelets thread the curtains onto the curtain rail.

Eyelet curtains are also considered easy to make at home because of the straight drop of the fabric and the fact that the bulk of the work is in setting where the eyelets are going to sit. They can be made of just about any material although they are most popular as lightweight window dressings. This isn't to say you won't see suede eyelet curtains, velvet eyelet curtains or faux suede eyelet curtains.

It would be a mistake to ignore the importance of the window treatment on the effect on the rest of the room and using curtains such as eyelet curtains will make a statement that fits in with both a casual and more formal room.

When looking for both form and functionality you can appreciate the ease of use of a curtain that opens and closes with a minimum of fuss. When you add properties that result in a clean, funky finish then there's no wonder that eyelet curtains are growing in popularity.
