The Thrill of Hog Hunting With Dogs
Hogs can be one of the most exciting game opportunities offered in the continental US, and hog hunting with dogs is a great sport for those lucky enough to try it out. But there are defiantly some things you should know about before saddling up and heading out, the bush is tough in many places of this country and not all places are highly hospitable to those not knowing the area well. Still, if you ever get the chance, hog hunting in any capacity can be one of the best memories in the field you will ever have and taking home that trophy boar is sure to be something you never forget.
I feel it is best for beginners to go with a good guide. They know all the best trails, and can keep you safe to enjoy your hunt without you having to become an instant expert in the topic of hunting hogs, with dogs or without. The better outfits can provide you dogs to hunt with and can work them in the field while guiding you in to your prize.
The first thing to consider for beginning hog hunters is the terrain and game, hogs are very intelligent and large animals capable of things one never sees in a white tail buck. Make sure that your equipment is up to the size of game y
ou will be encountering and this is another instance in which an inexperienced hunter will appreciate the advice of a good guide. If you do not really need a guide, a good book can be a big help.
Remember, as with all of all the hunting pleasures you can enjoy, hog hunting with dogs encases just a little risk to the sport. All outdoor adventures do really, but one should be careful not to get so wrapped up in the thrill of the sport that you lose focus on your safety and the safety of your dogs. Hogs can get rough, and the territory in many places they span can be just as hard-hitting as the boars themselves, so have a good understanding of the circumstances before ever heading out hog hunting with dogs.
