Let's be honest, many people love knowing just how much the most popular celebries make on a yearly basis. Many of us dream of being able to make the amount of money they make in a year within a lifetime. The top 10 richest musicians in the world are highlighted in this article, and I hope you do find this list relatively entertaining and enlightening. Who knows, maybe you will become the next superstar and find yourself on this list as well one day? If you come to know the right people, and create great music (not to mention: diversify your investments), you can become rich and famous just like these artists. In order from the least earners to the highest grossing musicians currently taking the world by storm, here are the top 10 richest musicians in the world.
1. Dave Matthews Band - $51 million dollars
Opening this list is a band who has been able to last the test of time, and has been almost in it's original form since the originally founding of the band in 1991. The band plays in a variety of genres, including jazz, hip-hop, soul, bluegrass, and rock. With 7 studio albums and a hoard of live albums, not to mention elaborate live shows taking place all around the year (especially their summer tours that occur anually to critical acclaim); it is easy to understand how the Dave Matthews Band has been able to gross so much money. This is easily one of the more eclectic bands currently topping the earnings list, and with good reason for sure.
2. Justin Beiber - $52 million dollars
Many of us can complain for hours when it comes to the music of Justin Beiber, but there is no denying his impact on popular culture and the fanatic fanboyism for him found in children and pre-teens all over the United States (and the world on a larger scale). Justin Beiber's earnings (of a whopping $52 million dollars) makes him one of the richest teenagers in the world, and moreover I find his earnings to be very amazing considering he only released one album of music; and is primarily known for his single "Baby" and his recently released Christmas album titled Under the Mistletoe. One can only imagine where his financial earnings come from, though there is no doubt they stem from constantly playing live performances, advertising campaigns, working for Disney, among many other sources. Even though he is one of the lower earners on this list, $52 million dollars is still a ridiculous amount of money to have in the hands of what we all deem to be a kid! Just remember: he probably has made more in his lifetime then 10 of us will see in our own.
3. The Eagles - $60 million dollars
The Eagles is one of the oldest bands topping this list (with their origins being from the 70s), and I find it amazing that they continue to produce music and tour; not to mention gross over $60 million dollars a year. It is honestly no surprise (outside of the age of the band), because these guys are talented and helped usher in the era of rock and roll. These musicians have won 6 Grammy awards, 5 American Music Awards, and have sold countless albums and singles which received critical acclaim and were placed at the top of many music charts. Of course, how could anyone forget their most popular song "Hotel California" which has creeped its way into modern video gaming (Guitar Hero) and into the hearts of so many people. The Eagles produce great music and deserve every penny they earn for sure.
4. The Black Eyed Peas - $61 million dollars
The Black Eyed Peas have been in the music industry for over ten years, and in recent years have grown to fame that can be measured by their monetary earnings. They are well known for tracks such as "I Gotta Feeling," "Imma Be," "Where is the Love," and "Boom Boom Pow," and "My Humps." Even if you are not familiar with their music (and for some strange reason have been disconnected from pop culture and the radio for the past several years), then you may have even seen some of their performances during the Super Bowl and heard about them in different ways. The Black Eyed Peas as a band spawn around ~$61 million dollars a year, not to mention the earnings the individual musicians in the band, like Fergie and wil.i.am, make on their own solo releases and tours.
5. Paul McCartney - $67 million dollars
Originally finding fame in The Beatles, Paul McCartney has been able to move on from that band and produce his own music; and maintain his fame even into the new millenium. He is considered by the Guinness World Records to be the "most successful musician and composer in popular music history." Without a doubt, this must be somewhat of the truth; considering his incredible earnings from his The Beatles and Wings musical periods. To even now maintain his image and continue earning money like he does is simply amazing. He is a political activist, businessman, musician, music producer, among other things. It is no wonder he continues to find a spot on top 10 richest musicians lists year after year.
6. Michael Buble - $70 million dollars
Many will likely be familiar with the music of Michael Buble, particularly on his many Christmas albums. His rise to fame is rather interesting, and very much related to being in the "right place at the right time." Between music production, acting, and touring it is easy to see how he has managed to make so much money throughout his professional career. He has received a variety of music awards in his lifetime, including 3 Grammy awards.
7. Lady Gaga - $90 million dollars
It is no surprise that Lady Gaga sits pretty in the seventh spot on this top 10 richest musicians list, considering her pretty rapid rise to fame; and her ability to produce multiple albums of music that is highly desirable to both people who love pop music and even those who do not (like myself). Maybe you are one of her "little monsters?" She is surely an interesting person and musician, calling similarities to the infamous superstar Madonna. I highly recommend checking out her music if you have not for some reason. It is most interesting how quickly she was able to rise to fame and make a killing.
8. Elton John - $100 million dollars
You have more then likely heard of Elton John, the famous British ballad rocker. He is well known for a variety of albums and tracks, such as "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" and "Circle of Life" (both from the Disney Lion King movie). He has been awarded countless awards, and in 1994 was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame sealing his lifetime achievement for being one of the best and most popular musicians of all time. It is no wonder that Elton John is close to the top of a list featuring the richest musicians in the world. You will likely be very familiar with this famous rock star for his flamboyant sense of style, most notably is often orange colored sunglasses.
9. Bon Jovi - $125 million dollars
Bon Jovi is an all-American band, appealing to a huge audience of people all over the world; ranging from young children to older adults. Well known for popular songs like "It's My Life," Wanted Dead or Alive," "You Give Love a Bad Name," and "Livin' on a Prayer" (among many others!), the fact that Bon Jovi has maintained momentum for decades certainly makes sense of their significant financial earnings over the past year. With over 10 studio albums and playing a variety of huge stadiums world wide, Bon Jovi is set to make money for many years to come. Fortunately, Bon Jovi is also well known for donating money to charity and playing a variety of benefit concerts; only lending to their greatness!
10. U2 - $195 million dollars
It comes as no surprise to me that U2 tops this list with almost $200 million dollars as a yearly salary. With tours running around the world on a yearly basis, over 22 Grammy awards won, numerous platinum records, and a heavy focus on sociopolitical and philanthropic causes; the fact that U2 takes the top spot on this list of richest musicians in the world is in no way a surprise. If I have to describe this band to you, then you likely need to get out from under your rock; as this band appeals to masses of people ranging from kids to elderly adults. Their style of rock music touches both on the grimy punk rock of Britain, to popular music made famous in the United States. They are the perfect blend, and feature well known musicians such as Bono and The Edge.
