Tumbleweed Hair

What type of hair do you have? Some people are lucky, they were born with beautiful, easy to manage, silky hair which stays looking good no matter what the weather is like. Others are not so lucky, they constantly have to deal with frizzy, wild, and unmanageable hair. When the weather is humid, it seems like their hair has a mind of its own and it can get so frustrating that sometimes you feel like putting a hat on and just giving-up! It's better than walking around with a "tumbleweed" on your head.

If that sounds like your hair, don't give up, there is hope! I have tried many products throughout the years and had a few disappointments, but I also found some products that work well to control and tame fly-away frizzy hair. I even found some products that work in humid weather. Here is my list of the top ten products to help you control and reduce frizzy fly-away hair.

The Top Ten Products to Help Reduce Frizzy Hair

Ever Sleek Humidity Defying Leave-In Crème by L’Oréal: A sulfate-free smoothing system cream, it provides 48-hour control and is silicone free. Use it after shampooing and conditioning your hair; distribute cream though-out clean, towel dried hair, leave in, and style as usual. This works, I used it on a recent trip to Hawaii where the humidity often reeks havoc on my naturally curly hair. However, on this last trip my hair looked and felt the best it has ever been (in or out of humid conditions). One warning, however, don’t use too much of the product or your hair will look and feel limp and greasy; with this product, too much of a good thing isn’t good at all.

Spoil Me by Bed Head: This is a “defrizzer, smoother, & instant restyler,” in a spray canister.  To use, spray it all over your hair while it is damp, and then dry and style as usual. You can also use it on dry hair, on those days when your hair is not doing what you want it to. This is a great product to use in the evening before going out, just spray, style, and go! It works well at de-frizzing and smoothing your hair.

Ever Pure Color Care System Smooth Deep Control Masque by L’Oréal: A sulfate-free color care system for your hair that helps to smooth away frizz. The masque is an intense deep condition nourishing rich cream that you apply to your hair directly after shampooing. Leave the deep conditioner on for three to five minutes, then rinse, dry, and style your hair. I keep this one in my shower to use as a deep conditioning one to two times a week. I still use one of the leave-in products after using Ever Pure.

Straight Hair by VO5: This leave-in gel straightens, smooths, and adds shines your hair. Squeeze a small amount into the palm of your hand and work evenly through towel dried hair. Straight Hair by VO5 straightens curly or wavy hair and keeps it straight until your next shampoo. It also protects your hair from heat styling without weighing it down. I like this one because it comes in a small squeeze container that I can take to the gym and use after my shower.

Advanced Color Care; Leave-In Glossing Mist by Dove®:  It is a lightweight spray mist that instantly detangles to improve manageability for easy combing, leaves your hair soft, and adds gloss without weighing it down.  To use, spray all over wet hair or on concentrated areas as desired. Do not rinse. This is good to help your hair look smooth and shiny. Again, as with most of these products, if you use too much you hair will appear limp and greasy.

Ego Boost by Bed Head: This is a leave-in conditioner to help mend split ends. Apply to the ends of your hair to seal, smooth, and protect your hair from split ends. You can use as needed on wet or dry hair (to aid against the “fly-aways”). This is great on dry hair, it helps control the split ends and tame the frizz.

Ever Sleek Frizz Taming Crème Serum by L’Oréal: A sulfate-free smoothing system that provides 48-hour frizz control and is silicone free. A small 1.9 ounce container is great to take anywhere, and it will last longer than you think. All you need is a drop or two, rub in your hair and work evenly throughout, do not rinse. You can use it on wet or dry hair to add shine and control frizz.

Make It Straignt! By VO5: A straightening gel that smooths and shines curly or wavy hair without harsh chemicals. It resists humidity to keep your hair straight until your next shampoo and helps to protect your hair from flat iron and blow dryer damage. Add to damp hair and work through thoroughly, blow dry. For optimal results, use a follow-up with a hot iron.

Ever Pure Smooth Frizz-Free Serum by L’Oréal: A sulfate-free color care system serum that provides lightweight conditioning. After shampooing and conditioning your hair, work the Ever Pure Smooth Frizz-Free Serum into your hair with your fingers. You can use the serum on wet or dry hair.

Control Freak by Bed Head: This is a conditioner for frizz control and to help straighten the hair. To use, after you shampoo your hair, add Control Freak and work thoroughly through the hair, rinse and style your hair as usual. It aids with tangles, texture, and frizz, plus it has a luscious fragrance.  I have used this as a leave-in conditioner (on wet and dry hair) and it works very well. I only use a couple of drops because that’s all that I need. It is wonderful on dry hair; it helps to tame it when hair is unmanageable and frizzy.

If you have hair that is difficult to manage, take a look at these top ten products to help reduce frizzy hair and find one that is just right for your hair type.

Great information, and very useful for me. I live near the ocean, and frequently have to deal with frizzy hair. I have a few products that I use, with varying success. I'll have to give some of these a try.

Oh, thank you for this list. (Right now I am using the Farnier Fructis line as I love the leave in aspect) It is time, however, for me to re-purchase a product and will most likely try one from your list. Very informative tips!
