The Versatility of Owning a Carport

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

For some people, having a garage is just part of owning a house. There may come a day when you buy the perfect house, but no garage with it. A carport installed on the side of the house or around back solves this.

Carports are very simple to construct. Normally containing six to eight poles, truss work and roofing material, the average homeowner can put one of these up in a brief period of time. They come in a variety of colors and materials to match almost any home exterior.

The standard carport is a roof and not much more, but these protect your vehicle from the elements very well. Harsh summer sun and snowfall are warded off by these, thereby saving your cars paint and vinyl roof. Storing a riding mower or yard equipment under these becomes a secondary use, provided the one you put up is large enough.

Although they have open sides for the most part, these protect most anything you store underneath. There are versions that come with sides and are open in the front and back. These are called Box Even or Vertical Roof.

They are available to house either a single car or multiple ones depending on the size you buy. Carports are the inexpensive alternative to putting up an entire garage. Garages can cost substantially more and need construction permits in most areas where the carport does not.

If your property is not wide enough to accommodate a garage, the other advantage to a carport on the side is that you will still have access through it to the back yard. Simply move the car out or the way and you can drive right through to the yard. This is especially helpful if small equipment needs to gain access to this area.
