As the maid of honor, you need to be at your friend's wedding, dressed in the dress she chose, and ready to look beautiful on the stage during her ceremony. While this is true, these are not the only duties that come with your title on the wedding day. Make sure you are prepared for all of the work involved with being the maid of honor on the day of your friend's wedding.

You need to make sure that the bride arrives at the ceremony location on time with everything she needs for the day. Create a checklist beforehand to ensure that you do not forget something. Help her get dressed, do her hair, and put on her makeup, unless she has hired someone to help with this. Since it is considered "bad luck" for the groom to see the bride in her dress, be the messenger between the two if the need arises.

Before the ceremony, try to visit the reception site if it is nearby to ensure that everything is ready and there are no last minute problems to attend to. Keep friends and family away from the bride before the ceremony if she wants some time alone. If she needs to use the restroom, lend a hand with her dress. Believe it or not, she will have a difficult time with all of the frills and fluff! During the ceremony, hold the groom's ring until it is needed, and hold the bride's bouquet when she needs her hands free.

Also at the reception, make sure that the bride's getaway bag is ready. Make a toast to the happy couple, remembering some of the highlights of your friendship. Help the bride bustle her gown before the dancing begins, and be sure to dance with the best man if asked! You are going to have a busy day, but in the end you will be thrilled to have had a hand in helping your dear friend on the most important day of her life.

Now I know that many of you out there like to pick your own style of clothing, but you have to remember that this is the brides' day. It is only right to wear the dress SHE chooses. Also you may feel that "hey this is a party!" You need to remember your job is to watch over the bride and make sure she has everything she needs. You make sure she has food, drinks, her makeup is still good, her hair is still good, etc. You settle all problems that may occur during the wedding.

Being a maid of honor is a big job and a special thing for you! Do your job well and you will make your friend's wedding a very memorable one!
