The Windshield Wiper
Your car is equipped with windshield wipers which are one of the most important pieces of equipment. They are not only essential but are a legal requirement for any vehicle that is being used on the road. The purpose of the wiper is to clear your windscreen of water. The drivers view would be blocked if it was not for the blades ability to remove dirt and grime.
The most important reason for a windshield wipers is for good visibility. In the UK they have another name, windscreen wipers. The windshield wiper design is an arm, this is attached at its base to a motor. Along the length of the arm runs a rubber blade which is the contact point to the windshield. The wiper arm removes water and dirt as it pivots backwards and forwards over the windshield.
The rate of pivoting can be increased or decreased as the arm travels across the windshield. Your control panel will have a switch for this. If there is only light rain you can use an intermittent setting.
The normal two blade system that is installed on most cars was replaced by Mercedes with the more effective Monoblade which can get into all corners.
The Gator Blade windshield wiper is a really inventive design that has just come out onto the market. The Gator Blade windshield wiper actually outperforms all other windscreen wipers on the market for giving you a great-looking and spotlessly clean windshield. One promotional video sees a man firing a bug bazooka at the windshield. Bugs are fired out of this thing at over 100 miles an hour, they are swept away real smoothly.
The windshield wipers need a little bit of detergent to be sprayed onto the windshield every so often, this is done through a spray nozzle and the water supplied from a bottle underneath the hood. The dashboard of your vehicle contains another switch which operates the water jets. It all allows you to keep driving while cleaning the windshield. This is known as the wet arm system. Wiper blades are also used to clean and clear both headlamps and the rear window.
