The Wonders of Castile Soap

Is your skin irritated by the commercial soap brands sold in stores today? Is your skin rough, flaky  and ash like after you dry off from a bath or shower because of the soap you washed with?  If so, it may be time for you to try a more gentle and natural soap in order to get that moisturizing and soft feel you desire after showering or bathing.  Many commercial soaps use SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate) in order to create the soapy lather many people enjoy when bathing.  When the commercial soaps are being made, the glycerin is removed, and once it is removed so is the moisture that  your skin needs.  When castile soap is made, the glycerin is retained, and your skin will enjoy all the benefits of the moisture it contains. This soap may be just the right soap for you to look into.

It is time for you to start using castile soap.  It is a natural soap made with vegetable oils.  It is believed to have originated from the Castile region of Spain, and is associated with Aleppo soap.  Aleppo soap came from Syria and dates back to thousands of years ago.  Aleppo soap was made from laurel bay oil, sodium hydroxide and olive oil, and the ingredients contained in castile soap are similar.  Today castile soap is made using olive oil.  Olive oil is used because it is considered an antiseptic, astringent with emollient properties.  So, as you now understand, It  is a very old, trusted and a natural way to clean your body with roots extending back thousands of years ago.

Here are some very important reasons why you should start using castile soap:

It will not irritate the skin.  As stated above, commercial soapmaking removes the glyercin in the soap, but when castile soap is made, the glyecerin is retained and thereby all of the moisture. It is gentle enough for babies and childrens to use as well.

  • It is gentle.  People who suffer from skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis and psoriasis will benefit from castile soap because of its gentleness, and ability to improve the skin’s health.
  • It is better for the environment and it is nontoxic.
  • Great to use as a skin toner and will nourish the skin.
  • It is inexpensive and accessible.
  • Great to use as a household cleaner.
  • It will not clog skin pores.  This natural soap will open up your pores allowing  a deeper cleaning to occur.
  • It will accelerate the healing of scars and stretch marks, making them less visible over time.
  • Uses high quality natural ingredients opposed to the commercial brands which take advantage of lower quality ingredients due to the inexpensive chemicals and additives included.

Now that you see the benefits of castile check out these common and alternative uses:

1. Use as an all purpose cleaner for your home.

2. Use as shampoo. Just mix the it with water.

3. Bath your pet.

4. Use as a hand soap.  Mix the castile soap with water.

5. Use as a toothpaste.  Just put a couple of drops on your toothbrush and scrub gently.

6. Clean your carpets.

7. Use as a dishwashing detergent.

8. Great for washing your vegetables.

So, the next time you are out shopping, why not grab a bottle of castile soap and try it out.  You can find some at Trader Joe's or Target.  Help the environment and help yourself to be cleaner, safer and natural.
